Hi, Yes we have seen that one and have actually phoned for more details, unfortunately that is the only one I can find.
We would love to hear from people who have experienced good and bad jobs, it is like wadding though treacle

We choose those three because :
Ontario is where I have family,
British columbia has always appealed because of the scenery
and
prince edward was an island (would feel like England without the hassle)
Never been keen on Manitoba as I have been told it is very barron, Alberta is a possibility
Quebec I would not consider as my wonderful Canadian cousin would disown me.. Sorry if that offends anybody, For some reason he has always had a problem with this province. He is a gentle giant and I am in complete awe of him!

Very telling that you missed mentioning Saskatchewan (possibly the most likely place to get a HGV job).
.You are aware of how small PEI is arent you?
Its probably more like the Isle of Wight (or even sark but with cars) than mainland england.

I didn't put Saskatchewan as I couldn't remember how to spell it !
I had to wait and paste it from your post, (only joking).
I think we were most worried about this province as it seems expats can easily be taken advantage of. As so many drivers go there to escape england they can be abused. we were trying to be safe.
Feel free to convince me otherwise, I am currently flying by the seat of my pants

Nah Sorry I couldnt do it to you, you seem like a nice person.
Personally, I'd forget PEI. (too small), Sask (too flat and treeless, at least in the southern 2/3) and Manitoba (see Sask plus the capital is not nick named winterpeg for nothing).
After that Canada is your oyster as they say.
I'm a big fan of Alberta (well from Okotoks to St Albert and the Rockies to Strathmore anyway). But then I live in Calgary so I would be.
Stratford (Ont) is a nice little town\City.
I could live in Toronto (well certain areas)
Montreal (if I could speak French)
Kamloops, Golden, Revelstoke, Invermere\Windermere (BC)

REF: We are interested in Ontario, British Columbia and Prince Edward
There hundreds of companies looking for drivers all accross Canada at present. To get there using the Provincial Nominee Programme (PNP) mainly the job has to be classed as Long Haul Truck Driver.
Every Province is different and the ones you have mentioned are detailed below with what I know briefly:
Ontario: As far as I know don't yet have PNP in place so you would have to find a job then Work Permit Then Perminant Residency (PR) which could take about 18 months either applying here first or In Canada once there...However I have been told that the WP is only valid for 12 months then you would have to return to UK for 4 months as here from one of the companies websites:
5. What about Ontario?
PE Island: Smaller place with few companies but still doing Long Haul
Don't Know what type of work you want to do
What experience you have
Are you flexible in your choice of province
Are your family 100% behind you being away for up to 2 weeks at a time
Do you have clean crim record as you need to be cleared for USA entry 99.9% of the jobs need this & any driver can't have current crim record.
Are you drug free as these test will be required for employers.
Min of 2 years driving experience
If you can answer positively to all the above then you will have NO problem finding work as a driver.
Alberta / Saskatchewan / Manitoba -------Via PNP
These are the main areas where the work is but there are the other provinces but just not as well advertised.
I have pages & pages of info so If you require anything and still interested please PM me and I'll send you stuff.
Check this out for starters will give a slight insight:

Just a note Bison are curently using a recruitment agent for their hiring of immigrant drivers. If your happy with this then thats your choice. Bison are a very good company tho from what I have been told but there are excellent companies that will help you with everything and not charge you a cent.
There ya go for now...loads more if you need it but I would seriously read the above threads before making any choice about driving in Canada as it really is more of a lifestyle than just a job....long haul anyway is.
Cheers Dave

Drivers are able to work in Ontario on a 1 year temporary work permit. When the work permit is expired, drivers must return to the UK for 4 months before re-entering Canada.

Davie, I blieve Andrew Miller corrected you on this when you asked about it before. The ONLY place to get CORRECT information on what goes when it comes to workpermits or whatever visa issues is the CIC website and NO WHERE ELSE! Please don't quote sites that are not official CIC sites as they could very well be citing old and incorrect information. A lot of immigration lawyer sites out there is making things look a shed load more complicated than whet they are - it is called "ambulance chasing". They rely on us thinking we can not handle immigration on our own. Andrew has several times pointed out that CIC is the place to go for VALID INFO and this place is the next step to get advice.
The above comes from one of the truck company websites which I have spoken to and who DO NOT HIRE IMMIGRATION AGENTS to handle their drivers. Nor do most of the companies which I have been in touch with or who are looking for drivers...
Yanke / Westcan / Siemens / NWTL / Big Freight etc etc
All these companies are very keen to have you come and work, they all have excellent HR depts who will help with everything from paperwork to house hunting to paying the drivers flight from UK to flying a driver back home in the bosses private jet coz his wife had taken ill.....AND NOT CHARGE A CENT LIKE I SAID.
personaly if a company is insisting on using an agent then give them a miss and this is the advice I have been given by drivers on the ground at the moment.
The para quoted is from a list of FAQ's to help drivers get some very basic info about the COMPANY and moving to Canada and this is what they told me when I spoke to them on the phone so if anyone wants to go work for them in Ontario call them and ask them.
10. Will your company assist with relocation and residency paperwork? Is there a fee for your assistance?
Yes, we will provide assistance with relocation and residency paperwork.
No, we do not charge a fee for our assistance. The Siemens Transportation Group Inc. is a privately owned trucking company that cares about the success of our program. We are not an immigration or relocation agency. We have a designated company representative in place that will assist you with relocation in the following ways:
- The initial set up of Provincial Health Care Bank Accounts and Social Insurance numbers
- Make recommendations for hotels, realtors
- Provide information on taxes, schools, recreational activities, shopping centers, etc.
Yes, we will provide assistance with the paperwork; however, it is up to the driver to gather the documentation and complete the application.
Andrew didn't actually correct me regarding this when I first asked him what he said was "I have no idea what they are talking about"
So when I spoke to the company they confirmed what they have on the site...no idea why it is the case and as I wasn't interested in Ontario never pushed it.
Andrew hopefuly will be helping me on an issue I have with BC as they are not currently accepting Truck Drivers via PNP...that I definatelt know is true coz I got the following email from them.....so done my homework ...Thanks for the feedback anyway.
Unfortunately, the BC PNP is currently not accepting applications for Truck Driver occupations. Your (potential) Canadian employer may wish to consider applying under the federal temporary worker program operated by CIC (Citizenship and Immigration Canada).
Best regards.
