Just to introduce myself and say i hope i can get some information from you all regarding living in Canada.

My brother moves to Edmonton in a few weeks and i'm looking to follow him out as soon as possible to escape gloomy Hyde in Manchester.

Hey there to you G-manc.....a fellow Hydie myself!! Left that grimy place last August and am living in Red Deer, Alberta. If there is anything you want to ask about life here, feel free. There are loads of people on here who live in Alberta, and lots who live in Edmonton and surrounding areas, so I don't think you'll have any difficulties obtaining info. Good luck!

I'm in Stockport but lived just up the road there for a few years.

Hi Mr Lee, I grew up on a council estate called Hattersley (famed for Hindley & Brady - on the same Avenue to be exact), but lived for 6 years in the "better" area of Gee Cross. Where in Stockport do you live now?

Live in Edgeley now. Flying out to Toronto in just over 5 weeks time to start a new life over there.

I know Hattersley fairly well. Know Gee Cross much better! Spent many a Friday night in the Lamb, the Cheese and the Grapes in the early/mid 90's.

I lived round the corner from the Bush for a while on Haughton Street off Market Street - you know it?

Yes, after looking it up on Streetmap, I've found it now and know where you mean. I lived a bit further up the road from there.....Grange Rd Sth (off Peel St) - had a "nasty" 6 years on that road then got our arses over here. I've seen a few of your previous posts regarding your application process and now you're finally going.....well done! Have you been to/stayed in Toronto before? We lived in southwestern Ontario March-Dec 04, but not far from London, ON. Unfortunately, having been spoilt by living in Alberta before moving there and we just never took to the area at all. But there are plenty of people who love it over there. Wish you the best of luck with your journey.

Well, another wannabe escapee from Hyde - I've always said it's a great place to leave - and those who live, or have lived there, don't need to ask why! This is my second time around in Canada - both times in Ontario, and each experience vastly different. We came back here 18 months ago to enjoy early retirement.....so if you want my tupenny worth of wisdom, I'd be happy to share................

I have to admit at being surprised at there being so many ex-hyde and surrounding area people on here. I actually live in Gee Cross (off Knott Lane) and have also been known to frequent the aforementioned boozers on occasions.

Yeah - I know Grange Road/Peel Street. I always thought that was the nice part of town! What was so nasty about it?

Yeah - been to Ontario twice now, plus the other half's from there. We'll be moving to Guelph initially, then after that...who knows.

We also checked out southern Alberta and BC last year. I loved it (although we never were down your neck of the woods) especially as I'm an outdoorsy person and I've got family there, but wifey wanted to be near her family so Ont it is.

I don't mind. At the moment I just want out of this shithole to be honest.

What's the betting we know some of the same people.

Is the username just an abbreviation of Greater Manchester, or are you a Mondays fan?
