Not the nicest of subjects but I saw an advert in a magazine that said one in five Canadiand has herpes.
This seems incredibly high - is it the same in England or is Canada unlucky.

Firstly, we're not in the US so the rate there wouldn't be the rate here. If you're arguing that Canada is, practically speaking, part of the US, then I'd tned to agree but I suspect few here would.
Secondly, this is a very dodgy assertion, South Africa, for example, would have a lot of teen pregnancies and not much in the way of reporting. The US might report a high rate but it doesn't follow that it's the highest actual rate.
Thirdly, if kids are sexually active at a younger age "here" (the US ? Canada ? BC ? Your house ?) we've no reason to suppose it's because of TV and magazines. Is there some particular feature of the Canadian media you feel causes pregnancies ? Mcleans doesn't give me the horn, I suppose one could say that people will do anything rather than watch Elvira Kurt but it's hardly a causal link.
Here, for a bit of balance is happy tale of the UK woman who has three children who have recently given birth; one was pregnant at 12.

Note that I use "balance" and "mailonsunday" in the same post delightedly.
