We are in Fredericton NB and the rain is just starting to get heavy (6:30pm). They are forecasting upto 4 inches (100mm) overnight. It was really cold about 3:30 this afternoon and then the temperature hiked as the rain came. I had thought they were going to be wrong and we would have snow.

We are close to Moncton.

We have horses and llamas and chickens.

They are all in the barn except one llama that just won't be caught.
We all got soaked in the attempt.

So I will be having a sleepless night worrying about her.:frown:

Its raining pretty hard right now and is feeling pretty cold.

I just hope the wind doesn't get too strong so that my poor llama will be ok.

We were supposed to be flying out of Halifax after a weeks recce to PEI, so unfortunately we'll have to spend a night in the Hilton and enjoy a few more canadian beers!

Not quite over yet but starting to blow itself out, things got quite hairy at times, our whole house shook for hours, taking full force off the Atlantic, thought our windows would come in at one point, and the roof was squeaking badly. Lost power, will not get it back until estimated late Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. I was at work at 6:00am this morning to power outages etc, chaos really, but fun.

Our power went off at around 2 or 3am and has just came back on at 11.50am. It's a bit on-off though at the moment. Feel really sorry for you Charlie 1 - no power for a few days

House nice and snug though as we have storage heaters which releases heat during the day. We also have a propane fire. No water when the power was off as we have a well, but luckily we have a watercooler so plenty of water to drink.

Tim Horton's was very busy this morning!

Just about played out in Fredericton now, some winds but everyone slept badly due to the rain lashing against the windows and sound of the wind. I was worried about a couple of dead trees (still standing) in our back garden ... they are still up but I am definitely going to tackle them before the next storm comes.

Re: Here comes the storm!!

Glad you're all ok - though it sounds pretty hairy alright - hope you get your power back sooner than that Charlie1 - we can't flush the loo in an outage (septic pump won't work):eek:

Thank you all who expressed concern over my llama.

She survived the night ok and we managed to catch her in her holding pen this morning.
we had intended to put her in the barn with her brother but things didn't work out as well as we had hoped.
After we had walked a few steps she through an absolute wobbly and turned into the psycho llama from hell.

In the end we had to let her go and leave her where she was.

Now tomorow we have to build a shute all the way down to the barn, about 50 feet so we can herd her into her winter quarters.

On the bright side at least we didn't loose our electricity here so we have been able to refresh ourselves with frequent cups of tea throughout the drama.:D

It was a bit windy here in Eastern NL as Noel came through yesterday but nothing really out of the ordinary. The track of the storm took it to the west of the Island so the West Coast got it worst. The Wreckhouse (SW Newfoundland) reported winds of 180km/h!!

I've just despatched Mrs AX on the first flight to Halifax as unfortunately her grandfather passed away over the weekend. The friends she is staying with in Beaverbank may not have power until tommorrow sometime so she's taken a torch and warm clothes!

Thanks for the thoughts for Mrs AX. It's been a tough few weeks as her other grandfather passed away in October. They'd both had long and full lives though.

Anyway, lets get back onto the thread of Hurricane Noel stories. According the the Globe and Mail it's all to do with La Nina and we're going to have an interesting winter!

La Nina's atmospheric mischief also changes the nature of the jet-stream air current that flows across North America from west to east, altering its normal path.

The results on this continent can mean a mixed bag of sometimes wacky weather: On the West Coast, it could mean even more precipitation – southern B.C. is currently soggy with rain – as well as a longer and colder winter, a combination that already has ski resort operators feeling hopeful.

In other parts of Canada, including the Prairies, Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada, La Nina has in the past brought colder winters and massive dumps of snow.
Does anyone really know what is going to happen weather wise?

It seems not, on the one hand we have the quoted above, yet Environment Canada says for most of Canada it will be a "normal" winter for temperature with "normal" to "below normal" precipitation for most of Canada.

Has anyone read what the "Farmer Almanac" is calling for? ;)

Cheers
Steve

Looks pretty good for the Prairies too. With slightly more snow for southern and western Alberta.

Can't complain at that. :)

Some snow next week according to this link!

We were without power for about 12 hours at the weekend and I have to say the power outages seem to be becoming quite a regular occurance. I noticed most of our neighbours had generators running yesterday and I am seriously thinking about getting on installed. Anyone have experience of buying generators? What should you look for?

Re: Here comes the storm!!

Hi Paul,

We were without power in Hubbards from about 2am till 5pm yesterday, as we are renting a place with a well we had no water either.

Neighbours were really helpful, and also mentioned that this is the first time since Juan came through that they had been withour power for any real length of time. They said that occasionally the power might go out for a couple of hours but that they couldnt justify the purchase of a generator which with installation can easily run to $3000.

Having said that, whilst I was in Canadian Tire in Quinpool yesterday to get an axe for firewood, there were a few people asking about generators!

Thanks for the pm about pensions btw.

Just got back to Antrim, the storm delayed us by 24 hrs, but the worst part was being delayed at Heathrow today by BMI for best part of 2 hours, easily the most annoying part of the trip. Will post regarding the recce when we have recovered, but it went well'ish.
