Re: HELP!!! VANCOUVER JOBS!!!
No, we haven't got Serving it right. We know we should get it, but, again, because we're so low on cash, we were banking on getting it sorted once we had a job offer. Basically saying to employers "we don't have it now, but we'll have it before we start". Now I see that in writing it looks a bit stupid. But loads of places don't seem to be asking for it especially. Do they expect to see it on the resume?

Not necessarily, but it's one more reason for them to dump your resume in the bin rather than taking it further (same with Food Safe although that's a lot more expensive to do). Also, do you have written references available?
There are some live-in jobs around, I've seen things like running a B&B out on one of the islands etc, rubbish money but a pretty good life I'd reckon. Keep your eye on craigslist (check the Victoria/Nanaimo sites as well as the Vancouver one).

Re: HELP!!! VANCOUVER JOBS!!!
Hello again,
Location wise, we've been looking everywhere within a reasonable bus ride. Admittedly we haven't handed in resumes around Yaletown yet, we should do that. We've mostly replied to craigslist jobs, but haven't got ANY replies. We've been able to find the jobs online, no problem. But don't seem to get any replies. ...

Yes, make sure your resume is Canadianized but, most important, get out and walk the streets. Hand in your resume at places where you would like to work, if they don't have a vacancy ask them if they know anyone who has. Look out for help wanted signs - there are still some about. In the hospitality business it is about your personality as much as anything else. Go out and sell yourself.

Re: HELP!!! VANCOUVER JOBS!!!
There are plenty of hospitality jobs in and around Vancouver being advertised on www.Go2hr.ca - look at the job board. Capilano Suspension Bridge is hosting a job fair this weekend, for example.
If that doesn't work, do look at http://vancouver.craigslist.org/jjj
Good luck!

Down this way a few Tim Hortons and Cafes are advertising for servers etc. Not sure if this is too far for you???
I do the opposite commute Langley to Downtown and so far its not too bad……
I’ll keep you eyes peeled at the bars etc around my office.

Today I walked around Davie Street and Robson Street downtown. Many retail shops have "We're Hiring!" signs in their windows. I'd perhaps go for a stroll and hand out your resumes to every place that's advertising.

Because Kamloops has a bit of a lottery cluster going on with BCLC (and others I believe) up there. However, for a new immigrant moving to Kamloops is a bit of a risk so I imagine many don't. This leads to not a lot of supply for the demand.
I briefly considered going up there - and would have if I hadn't found a job in Van after a period of time.

Thanks again for all the advice. We'll get ourselves out and about and try and do things face-to-face from now on.

The office is not too far from the Drive, the staff there help you with the
resume , use of internat and fax machine for job seeking purposes.
