since a plan doesn't make sense for a recce-trip, they are the only canadian gsm-option for the op.



nevertheless and actually more on a more off-topic-note:
there are other, smaller companies like primus and possibly some small regional / provincial players (not sure about that though?) who provide access to the gsm-network, ie use a sim-card.
but they usually have only monthly plans, tie you for a certain amount of time, provide the wireless more in a bundle with home phone / internet or so... and at least in my researches (and for now, here in bc and for my needs) they work out more expensive than the big monopolist(s).

there might be a bit of movement in the wireless market in near future though: http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2...8/auction.html ... one can always hope...

Hi Thanks all for your advice, my OH work's mobile always works in Canada - just handy to keep in touch. JO
