Question Help pls - Cv/Resume & applying for jobs by email

Does anyone know...

Are Canadian 'resumes' significantly different in format & content to a UK style cv?

I've had interviews/job offers starting from my cv in UK but not sure if the same cv would be successful in Canada just based on what info is provided and how.

Any tips from those who have successfully got interview/job offer via emailing resume?

I've researched a whole bunch of potential employers thanks to links I was given on here, just need to sort myself out to make big scary contact now

thanks in advance

The first thing to remember, if you are going to e-mail a resume [never a CV] to Canada is that they don't use A4 paper, so you must select Letter size when writing your resume. [File .. Page Setup .. Paper .. if using Word]

The above links both give tips on writing the correct form of resume for the Canadian job market.

I believe one of the main differences between the UK and Canada is that Canadians are encouraged to 'sell themselves' more in their resume .. other than that, I can't really help, 'cos I am in the same boat at the moment!! ..

Thanks! I will check them out at home tonight and get stuck into the big re-format...

Perhaps I should have a glass of vino first so I am feeling more in the mood to be boastful and sing my own praises

Good luck with your own hunt

Bear in mind also that some online applications require you to paste your resume into a form. Do a second version of the resume that contains no formatting (bullets, indents etc).
