Only parents, grandparents, spouses, fiancées and unmarried children (under 19) of
Canadians may be sponsored, so your cousin's friend cannot sponsor you at all.

Re: Help Me who can Sponser
Canadians means Canadian citizens and permanent residents as landed immigrants are
called 'New Canadians' for decades now.

Re: Help Me who can Sponsor
hopefully another correction? "The applicant must be the sponsor's spouse; fiance(e);
parent or grandparent; orphaned brother, sister, nephew, niece, or grandchild --under
19 and unmarried; a child under 19 who is either orphaned or placed with a child
welfare authority for adoption and who the sponsor intends to adopt; the sponsor's
dependent child; or, if the sponsor has no relative as listed above and no relatives
who are Canadian citizens or Canadian permanent residents, one other relative."
could someone possibly clarify here, i'm not sure from the wording:
"orphaned brother, sister, nephew, niece, or grandchild --under 19 and unmarried;"
does this mean that only the grandchild in this instance has to be under 19 and
unmarried, or that all people in this category need to be under 19 and unmarried?
many thanks airpal
(who has pr aunts and uncles, but who isn't under 19 myself...)

Re: Help Me who can Sponser
No, you cannot - unless your brother is an orphan, unmarried and under 19 or if you
are alone in Canada (no spouse, children or other family) and you don't have other
family members (parents for example) abroad who may be sponsored.

not normally no. there are some circumstances where it could be done. for example if
you were sponsoring yoru parents and your brother was their dependant then they might
be included in that application. also if they have no other family but you outside
Canada and there is no one else for you to sponsor then i think there is provision to
sponsor them.
but normally they have to get to Canada on their own merit as an individual, ie
indipendant. however they would get the extra points on offer for having a relative
in Canada.
