Unhappy help me filling in PR application

Hi all,

well I have printed out the forms finally and am now taking my time filling them out, just a couple of questions if any of you who have already filled them in can help.

1. Obtaining the police forms, do you just send the letter to the police headquarters ie mine will be devon and cornwall constabulary or to your local police station ie camborne.

I went down there but some guy on the front desk couldn't help me and told me to come back when someone could, great real helpful!!!

2. My partner and I are going to get married and don't know whether to fill in the forms after we have tied the knot or just send them off now and then somehow update them when we are wed by filling in the appropriate amendments forms?

3. Also I am studying a degree at the moment but have got another 2 years left on it but know that it takes about 2 years for you to hear the outcome so do I put that I have got a degree as when it is completed I will have or not? It will give me some more points if I do.
If I don't and wait until I have got my degree then I will not put my form in until 2 years time with a 2 year waiting list???

4. do you have to put the city/town where you intend to live in Canada or can you put the Province only?

5. did anyone use a representative?

Cheers all.

I am having a break it as it can get to much!

Peek a boo....its me, so you found me then? They are going to come along and tell me now that i haven't got a PR, and that am soooo not Canadian yet ( never said i was yet ), and that am not even British :-)

Anyway Turfey,

I'll try and help you as much a i can, as i have been through it, and understand quite a bit about it. NOTE: am not an expert, just someone that filled it all out himself, and became a PR in 5 months.

First thing, police cert you want, is the one from scotland yard, that is why the officer couldn't help you. The one that say"police national computer", its going to have to come from scotland yard anyway, even if you live outside london.

secondly...get married before you send it, takes away the doubt and other issues.

Thirdly....do not use the digital camera, take the pics at a studio with the required specs, to avoid your stuff being returned.

Add a note explaining you are taking a degree and it will be done in 2yrs. Always do this for areas on the form, where you haven't got a ready answer, include notes, number the pages and refer the note to the section of the form.

Just name your province if not sure where in it you are going to end up.

No i didn't you a rep, as i figured i was quite capable of doing it myself, and boy was i right !

Hey mick

The required form can be collected from any police station.
The PNC (police national computer) form should cost you £10.00.
You would only use Scotland Yard if you lived in the Metropolitan Police area. Police in the UK are not "Naitional". Each constabulary is seperate but under the Home Office.

Oh, no!
I used a digital camera. Does this mean I'm going to get that bloomin' great package back again after 10 weeks of waiting for AOR?

Turfey - I found it much easier to fill in the forms online i.e. typed, then I printed it all off when I was sure it was all correct.

Digital camera is perfectly fine so long as you follow the guidelines for size etc.

I also typed the forms online - looks much tidier.

You can go into any police station and ask them to take your details so that New Scotland Yard can send you the application form to complete. The document you require is for a Subject Access Form - Data Protection Act 1998. You can also complete the online form on the Metropolitan Police website (that's what I did) and they will send the application form to you. Complete this and send it off with £10 and the NIS Document should be with you within 40 days. Ours came by return post.

ewww, have just sat on wet chair and then noticed son sans nappy!

regarding police forms; ignore the one that says 'Request for Police Clearences', lord knows what that one's about but it delayed our application by weeks. Dowhat Tiaribbon did and request the form online.

Hi all,

thanks for all your help, so I will go and fill in my PR form online as soon as I figure out how to do it? I am blonde

I can open the PDF file in adobe and that's about it, can't seem to type in it, probably something really simple to do but I can't do it.

I will call a local photographer and sort it out and tell him what exactly I need.

So with regards to the police form I go to Scotland Yard or Met Police, all different advise is confusing me (doesn't take much) I live in Cornwall.

It doesn't matter where you go - the form comes from Scotland Yard and whether you complete the application for the form online or you go into a police station in Grimsby or Land's End, the form still comes from Scotland Yard to your home address.

No it isn't. That is for the PNC. You want the Subject Access form above PNC which is for anyone, anywhere in the UK.

Sorry didn't mean that to sound short! It's just that I used to work for the police so I know what I am talking about. If you can't see the form online then just write to the address given at Scotland Yard and request the application form for the Subject Access form.

Default Police checks

Hi turfey. i just rang the sheffield police, and they gave me a number, it is an automated service, all you do is speak your details, and they will send it out to you, its a SA1 form and the number to ring is 01142523070 bear in mind that this is a sheffield number i dont think it will matter because the form is standard across the board, and if u need help with th PDF format form filling, just let me know, been there done that.
Oh yeh and it takes about six weeks for the forms to return, by which time you may have finished the application forms, well if you have lived in 3 different countries and had 16 different addresses over a 16 year period in the Army it does, god what a nightmare it was, and to make it worse i have German in-laws, time consuming to say the least. Good luck

Just got my police checks through today, 10 days total since I asked for the forms, I phoned the "Data Protection Officer" at my countys police HQ, he poped the right form in the post first class, arrived next day, sent back filled out and with check for me and my wife, and copy of passport + birth certificates the day after and then had letter from them saying all was OK and Hampshire had sent to NSYard for processing, 1 week later it's there on the door step. Apparently "90% of requests are for visa applications, the other 10% from lawyers!!!", so they knew what was needed.

Very helpful and very efficient

the direct number for NSY subject access office is 0207 230 2958, just read it off the letter they sent back, if you call them they can send the form to you also I believe..

As for adobe, if you pull the forms down from CHC web site, you can then download ADOBE professional with a 30 day eval, that allows full editing of any ADOBE document, I have done this and on some of the forms that are not fillable in automatically, I have put in text boxes and done a neat job of filling them out (eg the Immigrant Summary Form than needs filling out in duplicate).
worth doing it on the laptop as any mistakes or typos can be corrected before printing it out, and we dont want any spelling mistakes if were claiming 16 points for english language now, do we ;-).

A bit long winded this but finally any feedback on consultant use or otherwise would be appreciated from anyone, I seem to have done 90% of the stuff so far, and was in a mind to use them but need convincing. Im on 78 points with a poss10 more for an internal transfer from current employer but not holding my breath on that one given current CHC London timescales, feedback on value for money or peace of mind in haveing application checked out prior to submition would be welcome

You said you've done 90% of the work yourself, why are you looking to throw money away by paying someone to look over it for you, when you can get a couple of mates together, or family members to look over it for you.

I believe you can do it yourself, and that money put to better use. You mentioned adobe professional 30 day trial, well use this, and the version 6 pro is all yours forever. 1118-1930-8212-8343-3116-6241 ( you know what to do with it i presume )?
