Default HELP - Low Cost Region 2 DVD Players in Ontario

There were posts on this issue a while back that I can't locate. Can anyone confirm models that play R2 DVD's. DVD's from Walmart and Future Shop were mentioned if I recall.

Many Thanks,

Many Thanks,
All dvd players are multiregioned however you need to find a code to unlock them, this code is normally entered via the remote control. Check on the net before you buy to see if there is a code for a particular model you are looking at.

Many Thanks,
We brought over all our UK collection of DVD's thinking we could buy a multi-region DVD player - like you can in the UK - but you can't get them here (at least that's what we were told in every electrical store here). The first time we were here, we ended up ordering a multi-region player from the states which was expensive and had to pay extra duty (over $300 in all)....but this time around we've bought a yamaha home cinema system and have de-coded the dvd player and now we can play any UK DVD

Hope this helps you
Jaycee

Many Thanks,
Most DVD players can be unlocked to play R2 DVDs.

See the following thread on another board: http://britishexpats.com/forum/showp...9&postcount=10

Good luck;

I am so mad.....I feel like we were totally conned and mislead about this. All the electrical stores you can name here all said that the DVD players are all locked to Region 1 only and that we would struggle trying to get one to play our UK Region 2 DVD's. Like I said, we ended up having to order one online from a company in the States, but now have a Yamaha model which we found the code to key in on the remote. We even bought that same Diamond dvd player you mentioned for our daughter for christmas but it won't play her UK movies.....what are we doing wrong?

There are a couple of different models for the Diamond. The earlier ones need to be unlocked via the remote whereas the newer ones work straight out of the box (it plays all our UK DVDs). What model did you buy your daughter?

Hi Posi,
I am so embarrassed, having a bit of another blonde moment I think - been having a few too many recently!!

.....after my last post I went straight to my daughter's room, checked the DVD player which now turns out to be the "Digitec" (I knew it began with a "D" though ) And guess what else I learned? Yep, we tried a UK version of Shrek and voila!, the soddin' thing makes an absolute liar out of me! That's 2 blonde moments in 2 days.....but hey, at least I discovered something new today by the info from this thread

Think I'll take a back seat next time advising on technical stuff....leave it for the BIG BOYZ on 'ere

Thnx,
Jaycee

Good luck with the trip on Sunday. Last few days in Calgary made us realise why we moved. Sun, sun and more blues skies. White German Shepherd with big fluffy coat less than impressed though.

Know what you mean about the cost of moving over here. It soon mounts up. Just had our annual car/house insurance renewal quote. Ouch, it still hurts. At least the DVD players are cheap.

Search is on hold at the moment (although in some ways I fancy a change). Accidently let it slip out to the head of our R&D organisation that HR were dragging their feet over my PNP application and the following day the forms were done. Just have to finish getting my employer references from 20 odd years ago and French/South African police clearances and all should be good.

Many Thanks,
Just buy a multi region player from one of the many outlets on the internet. I bought my Toshiba a couple of years ago now but I paid £80 for a good multi region player already unlocked.
