Help - how do Torrents work and what do I need to use them?
Hi All, I keep reading about people using Torrents to download TV programmes from the UK. I have no idea what that is and what we need to use it, so thought I would ask here for some help and advise on the subject.
Thanks in advance and sorry if I am repeating a query that has already appeared here once! |

Re: Help - how do Torrents work and what do I need to use them?
Its a question i asked a while back.
Download uTorrent software www.utorrent.com Go to www.isoHunt.com to find torrents to download. Its not all that hard, as long as you have broadband. Basically you get bits of the file from lots of other online users at once, rather than getting the whole thing from one site, then you contribute to the dissemination of that torrent by uploading bits of it to others who want it. |
Re: Help - how do Torrents work and what do I need to use them?
I am probably on the intermediate level on some and basic on others. I have no clue who torrents work, but was interested to read on here that some people are managing to watch UK TV through these. Hence the question. Probably best to opt for the idiot's version, just in case:D

Re: Help - how do Torrents work and what do I need to use them?
torrents is a peer to peer file sharing system.
utorrent is the best one to use. Its a very small application and it handles all your files. Its very simple to use. When you click a torrent to download it will ask you where to save the file. I have a downloads folder on my desktop to make it simple to find. Then let utorrent do all the work. I use piratebay.org to download movies and tv shows. isohunt.com and mininova.org are also very good. Look for torrents with a high number of seeders. |

Also make sure your PC security is up to date...not all Torrents are safe from viruses...

Re: Help - how do Torrents work and what do I need to use them?
Ok, thanks for the help so far. Having looked some more into this, what about paying one of these VPN/Proxy services that seem to be available in abundance? And if that is a viable option, which ones are the most reliable to go with?

Re: Help - how do Torrents work and what do I need to use them?
I personally wouldn't pay for those VPN services. Before you could get access to sites like HULU but now hulu started blocking sites like witopia so no use unless you want to hide your identity.
You could pretty much get everything you need free. comedynetwork.ca globaltv.com ctv.ca cbc.ca reairms all their programs. For british tv, i love j@ck tv http://www.myp2pforum.eu/live-tv/445...ive-uk-tv.html specific shows you can torrent or use youtube. I've been watching uk border force on youtube from this user http://www.youtube.com/user/ffeenixxx don't pay if you don't have too :) |
Re: Help - how do Torrents work and what do I need to use them?
If its UK TV you are after then you have a few options, in short they are:
- Torrents - Hide my IP + Iplayer/4OD - sopcast and myp2p.eu or some other live streaming. Torrents will give you the highest quality but you have to wait until you have downloaded the program plus if its specific shows you want then you need to join a group such as thebox.bz or uknova. This guy has written a pretty neat guide to watching UK TV abroad, http://www.thatstheplan.com/?page_id=211 Summarises things better than me. For what its worth I use a combination of torrents and hidemyip. |

extreme speeds is a good torrent site
very very fast .. and much better than uknova , usualy has the show just after its been on the in the UK or where ever in the world .. and you can be watching it in mins We also use vuse to get the torrents and as a torrent search engine kinda thing Also use VCL media player and a normal monitor cable between laptop and TV so can watch it all on the box.. We were idiots on this at first .. But we just followed an idiot guide off a torrent site and went from there .... |
Re: Help - how do Torrents work and what do I need to use them?
Its best to keep to the private sites as anything thats not 'quite right' is thrown out pretty quickly
For movies I use Pirates Of The UK but I dont think they have invites open just now unless you make a sizeable donation to them - Have never downloaded anything untoward on this site always found it very helpful British tv I use the box.bz - Very good site for all british tv - I have downloaded some good stuff from there . I read a thread on here somewhere about a lot of complaints that people were being kicked off and banned . If you keep your ratio at around 1:1 you shouldnt have any problems For British sports (or any sports for that matter) I usually watch live streams - I use the-streaming-lounge.co.uk - you have to do a 2 minute registration but its very good site that has basically anything that is being broadcast somewhere - They sometimes ask for you to make a couple of posts in the forum to open up the streaming links |
Re: Help - how do Torrents work and what do I need to use them?
You may want to download another little program to run with utorrent, called PeerGardian.
Some media businesses interested in maintaining their copyright pretend to be peers and then monitor/note your IP address, PeerGardian regularly updates itself with 'their' IP addresses and blocks them. Normally they are only interested in the big fish who download lots and lots, but you can never be too careful. |
Re: Help - how do Torrents work and what do I need to use them?
If you are looking for British TV stuff, check out thebox.bz torrent site. VERY good site, been using it myself for quite some time.

Re: Help - how do Torrents work and what do I need to use them?
as the earlier poster said try the thebox.bz.
If you need an invite please PM me and I can give you an invite. This is a excellent site, just keep up your share ratio up, you can normally get UK TV prog hours after being on TV. Use Utorrent as your torrent downloader tool. Have fun:thumbsup: |
