Can anyone appease my fears on this as I am taking 3 small kids with me and cant risk their health?!

Typically, the asbestos content will be between 1 and 10 percent, if present.
Professional removal for say a basement area would probably be in the region of $2 - $4,000. Never seen it done but apparantly they have a special tool that takes them out whole and it is easy for them to do.
As others have said, if in good nick, they pose no threat.
