To be sure they are asbestos tiles they need to be analysed in the lab. If the tiles are 9' by 9' they will almost certainly have some asbestos content. If they are 12' by 12' then it`s 50/50.

Typically,the asbestos content will be between 1 and 10 percent, if present.

Professional removal for say a basement area would probably be in the region of $2 - $4,000. Never seen it done but apparantly they have a special tool that takes them out whole and it is easy for them to do.

As others have said, if in good nick,they pose no threat.

I can see why a special tool would be necessary. Removing a 12-foot square tile in one piece must be quite the job.
