Hi everyone
I wanted to say an official hello.
My husband and I (and our 2 year old son) are wanting to immigrate to Canada. We haven't done any applying yet but we are looking into it and it seems that we will be ok for the skilled migrant category even though we are aware that there is an aweful wait. I guess we hope it will be worth it in the end.
I have so many questions because my hubby and I a couple of years ago applied to immigrate to New Zealand. We eventually decided not to go because I was having a difficult pregnancy at the time that we needed to make the decision and our main priority was our baby's health and not getting to another country, so we let that go and have kindof regretted the decision ever since. Now our son is a little bigger we feel ready for another move but have decided (after much though) to try Canada instead. The problem is, the New Zealand immigration process is so clear in our heads still that we keep getting mixed up about Canada and New Zealand because the immigration procedure is totally different. So I may be asking a lot of stupid questions!!
Can anyone direct me to any useful links that make the whole immigration process really simple and easy to understand? Like step by step from beginning to end?
Thank you in advance for all the helpful advice.

Hello Kerry and Welcome to our little mad world
The WIKI on here is a brill source of info and also the search button and just trawling through the posts and reading all the other questions - as lots will be relevant to your case.
Do you want to wait a long time via Skilled Worker route or try to find a job, what line of work are you both in.
Any idea which part of Canada may interest you - although at this stage this is not very important, we were determined to go to Ontario, then Alberta and are now definitely moving to Saskatchewan. Its quite shocking really as eight months ago I hadn't even heard of it
Ask lots of questions and keep your fingers crossed that you will get at least one sensible answer.
Alison.

Thank you for your replies.
At this stage we have no idea where we want to live but we plan on making a trip or two out there in the next couple of years to look for potential places to live.
We are happy to wait for the skilled migrant route although if a job offer happens our way we will be more than happy to take it up. Perhaps on our reccie trip we will set up some interviews and just see what happens, you never know.
My husband is a teacher but he won't be teaching in Canada because of qualifications not being recognised in Canada so he is going to go back to Environmental Science (his original career) and I am an Accountant.
I look forward to chatting to you all in the LONG time it takes us to eventually get to Canada.

Hello Kerry
Welcome to BE.
Best of luck working your way through all the info offered here as already pointed out by Alvic.
What she didn't point out is that BE is addictive - you have been warned.
The good thing though, we do have a loads of laughs and that makes the long process a bit easier to handle.
Rob.

Here I am at last a little tired and a little preoccupied but never too preoccupied to say welcome to a fellow BE member.
Good luck in your search for a province that will suit you and your family's needs.
Whispers - if I were you I'd be careful of Alvic and Rob they can lead you astray
