Hi There, a new member signing in! After lurking in the background for weeks, reading most of the post's and using your knowledge, tips and advice, we are now in the process of getting our application together.
Just wanted to pop in and say hi, and thanks!!
I have found the answers to (nearly) all the questions we had popping in our heads. You guys are really quite entertaining!
now I have finally gathered the courage to join up and post, hope to contribute instead of 'lurking' LOL

I am thoroughly enjoying this too. What part of Somerset are you from. One of the many places I have lived is Taunton. I really liked it there, easy to cycle, but it has really grown since I was there.

I was born in Chard and my family all live in the Taunton area. Small world eh!
I actually met a women at the local playgroup the other day. She came from Axminster(the next town). The more we spoke the spookier it became. She lived two doors away from my best friend at school and new the family well.
Good luck

Hi
what's this with all these people from Devon planning to emmigrate to Canada?! There seem to be quite a few of you on this forum. I had always thought that if I ever returned to the UK (live in Dublin at mo) Devon would be my dream.... Don't tell me it's not all clotted cream, Dartmoor ponies and surfing? I'd be VERY disappointed. (Seriously, one of my main worries about going to Canada is that there's no surfing - not that there's much in Dublin either LOL but at least we can reach it). Has Devon gone down the toilet or something? I'd be interested to know, as if our Canada plans fail, the west country is/was a definite plan B.
Thanks
Snowqueen

Hi All,
Thanks so much for the welcome from all of you. I feel all warm and fuzzy now (but thats another story
!)
I have been hooked on htis site for the last few months, poppong in nearly daily! and thats before joining this mad gravy train!
We are heading to BC, hopefully Vancouver, but still not made up our minds 100% yet, depends on where we are most likely to get work, the major concern of most people i can see.
Hi Nivlass, small, small world eh! we are in Southway, Hubby works in Devonport, I work in Plympton, where are you?
And Snowqueen, no dont worry Devon hasnt gone down hill , well not too much anyway! still as beautiful as ever, we are lucky as we live within view of the moors and only 7 miles from a city, so got the best of both worlds. still loads of clotted cream, cream teas and not forgetting pasties (the one true thing i will miss when we leave, i think i will dream of Ivor dewdneys in my sleep!!)
No, its not Devon we want to leave, i would rather live here than anywhere in UK (and before anyone gets upset, I'm sure anywhere anyone else lives is lovely too!) its this Country we want out of!!

We are not Devonians through and through, but have lived here on and off for about 11 years. (a couple moves between Canada and the UK since then though).
We are in Tamerton Foliot. My husband (you may see nivlad on this forum) works at the University and I work for the PCT in Public Health. Lovely place to work but my husband has got himself a job in Canada about 30 minutes from my family. What a change that will be. I haven't had a Christmas with them for over 5 years now.
Good luck with your decisions and if we can help in any way. Vancouver is beautiful, but so are so many other parts of Canada. Job will definitely guide you.
