Hello from St John's

Hello from St John's
My husband and I have just arrived in St John's from Scotland (Aberdeen area). We have work permits via PNP Newfoundland, and have our applications for permanent residence in with the London office.
Nice to see other people in the same boat!
Is the weather always like this? (Loving it, just didn't expect so much snow so soon!)

Re: Hello from St John's
Hi and welcome to Canada and BE
I live in Nova Scotia and moved here in Jan 07 from just outside Aberdeen.
We have also had snow the last few weeks and temps down to -17C and its not officially winter yet We have seen one winter here already and lived to tell the tale . Can get really cold (-30C) but not too much snow last year. Colder in the winter but definitely warmer in the summer and beautiful in the Fall
Any questions, then just fire away. We're a friendly bunch

Re: Hello from St John's
Hey Pink, me and the family are moving to St John's (well....probably CBS) in Jan/early feb, as soon as we can sell the house, my new job is in St John's.
We are very much looking forward to moving to the best kept secret in Canada!! (but you'll know that shhhh.)

Re: Hello from St John's
Welcome! Presumably you have a link to the oil industry having moved from Aberdeen to NL?

Incidentally, no matter how cold it gets here, the coldest I've ever felt was one New Years Eve in Aberdeen! (just visiting.)

Re: Hello from St John's
Blimey. It's getting a little crowded these days. This time last year there was just me now there's three of us plus more on the way.

This is unusual as its highly likely for temps to be in positive double figures in Dec whereas today its -ve! Right now its more like February conditions. Depending on where you are living, investing in a snowblower might be a smart move!

Re: Hello from St John's
Thanks everyone for the replies - it is nice to know other people think that Newfoundland is a fabulous place to live. We came over on holiday in October 2004, fell in love with it, and couldn't believe our luck when my OH got the chance to transfer from Aberdeen to St John's!
Loving our new life here - as are our dogs! One in particular loving the snow, despite a shock today at middle cove beach when the ice on some water broke under him! Luckily it was only about 4 inches deep at that point.
