Hello!
I'm new to this forum although I've been reading bits and bobs for a few days now.
I am a Canadian living in the UK - and thinking about moving back. I left Canada at 5 years - some 20+ years ago (well more but I'm not saying my age
)
Born in Montreal, and hoping to move to the West Coast, Vacouver / Calgary and just starting my exploration into it.
I'm rather scared about it as I'm on my own however I'm excited about it too - just need to get researching.
Only good think I guess is I don't need to get any visa's organised or work permits!!!
Hope to get lots of info from you guys over the next few days / weeks / months!!!
Bandit!

welcome to the forum, I only joined recently myself and have found lots of good information and friendly people. I don't know anything about the West Coast (I'm in Toronto) however one bit of advise, if you don't already have a British Passport get one. My husband was also born in Montreal and lived in the UK from the age of 14 until 26 and never got one. It would be really useful now as he mostly works in Europe.
Good luck with your research.

Hi Elaine
I have an Irish Passport and a Canadian Passport and citizens of both. The former allowing me to reside without question in the UK (own my own home etc), and obviously being the good ol' purple passport, I'm free to live and work anywhere in the EU. So hopefully I'll be OK!!!
Don't suppose you know how I would go about getting my Canadian National Insurance number? I used to get an orphans benefit from Quebec so must be on some data base (I'm not actually an orphan but Under Quebec laws I was as my father passed on)....
Thanks again Elaine!

As for the Canadian Social Insurance Number, I'm not so sure but there may be some info. on this site:
http://www1.servicecanada.gc.ca/en/cs/sin/010.shtml
My husband did have a canadian SIN number when he left canada as a child and he still uses that same number. So maybe like you say you're on a list somewhere.

Hello Bandit and welcome to BE.....where in Ireland do you live?
#7
I don't!!! I live in Surrey, UK.
Landed in the UK many years ago, on Canadian passport, after my last one ran out, I tried getting a UK one, but it was very difficult to owing to the various factors of proving I was entitled to one, so got an Irish one (actually it was very easy to)... Parents are Irish, and have family in Dublin.
Now thankfully I'm in reciept of a brand spanking new Canadian one!!!
