Hi and welcome to BE. I've also only just joined although I've been in Vancouver quite a long time. The thing to remember is that you can always go back if it all goes wrong but I think you'll like it here. Your location is probably going to be related to where you can find a job, so that is a priority if you haven't got one yet. Let me know if you need some sites to help find one.
All the best.

English Bay's a great spot but Stanley Park is a favourite. I also love the Vancouver Aquarium - Sinkorswim, it's great for kids!

I hope you like Regina...stay away from the central/washington park area it is a verrrry bad place..Liz warned me off it and we drove through it when there in June and she was right.

Just be careful

Are you renting or buying? North and West Vancouver are the most expensive areas - West Vancouver is considered the most expensive place in Canada. It's well populated and to get to either area you have to cross a bridge called the Lion's Gate Bridge.

If you want to rent, you could try the North Shore News -

http://www.canada.com/northshorenews/index.html

as this is the local paper for that area. If you need a realtor, I know a couple.

Below are examples of rentals for West Van:

5 BDRM & DEN HOUSE 1184 Edgewood Rd. (by Handsworth School) $969,000! Paul Murphy (Sutton) 604-986-1586

Of course, there's all sorts out there, you just have to look. Good family areas include Lynn Valley, Edgemont, Deep Cove. There's also townhouses as well.
