The Crispie Family arrived to a round of applause at Ottawa at 1am on Saturday morning.............it was supposed to be Friday morning at Halifax but never mind eh!If anyone can beat our dramas of an immigration flight and landing then just save the story for Hollywood.
Thursday I check flight prior to leaving for airport.
Arrive at the check in opening time (2.00am) to be told the flight to Halifax is cancelled due to a technical fault.
Given 3 adjacent hotel rooms (very nice) and hotel meals of breakfast and lunch. Zoom did a great problem recovery job in my view as this must have cost a fortune!
Catch flight 9.00pm that is redirected via Ottawa.
1.00pm have to disembark at Ottawa and so landing process must take place here. This in a supposed 1 and a half hour turnaround.
Passport control were slow but a crisis was brewing at immigration. Just as the desk was opening a diabetic immigration officer collapses and dies at his booth
The delays were inevitable and the guy left to deal with a huge queue should be commended. We are a family of 6 and he had to measure and photograph 2 of the kids to get the forms up to scratch. The back of the queue thought we must of been celebrities with the camera flashes and after what was now 3 hours of waiting offered a round of applause when we were finished. The connecting flight was held only as far as us and we got to rush across the huge check in area that was totally deserted to be boarded and the plane doors shut behind us. About 20 missed the flight including the guys that gave that so ironic round of applause!
Hey... we made it and within 3 hours of arriving at Halifax my eldest daughter was registered and starting her life at Acadia University.
The journey was an epic but gladly we have experienced nothing but kindness and sunshine since landing!
The Annapolis Valley is just wonderful and we are so pleased with our move

Some days I think I'm having a crap day, then I realize it could be worse.

Well done Crispie!!!
We too landed in calgary last Saturday .... isn't that "Welcome to Canada" a lovely thing to hear????
The bummer is I am now back in the UK on my own (with my dog) while the rest of the family starts their new life without me!!!
We are joing them on 13th October though .... can't wait!!!

Thankyou for all the comments guys.
I've been telling the landing story to all our new neighbours and they're just lapping it up! Perhaps they just love hearing our charming British accents.
I am actually blown away by the welcome here in the neighbourhood. For examples we so far have had fresh bread, a BBQ, a bowl of blueberries, home baked cookies, a dip in a swimming pool, a hand mowing the lawn and all the advice a newbie could ask for!
Weather has been outstanding since arriving and we have gone swimming in lakes, gone tubing down a river and got the suntan that England failed to provide this year.
All the kids are catching the yellow bus to schools and eldest and wifey are well into uni studies.
My observation after my first week here is that time just flies by to start and things seem to take longer. Partly because of distances but also because everything is new and strange. Also everyone wants to now your life history which tends to take a while! Like I'm so interesting eh!
You can probably tell we've been busy by the distinct lack of postings!
Anyway we just bought a cheap Ford Taurus to tide us over and to be rid of the pricey hire vehicle. If it lasts the winter I'll be happy (the winter tyres are about the best part of the thing
).
House hunting starts soon!
Loving Canada so far
.......or is that just inviting the doom merchants to say...."just wait for winter".

Congratulations! i am so glad that you made it here safely. although not soundly!
it sounds as if things are really working for you and i am so glad for the whole family.
things are a little difficult for me right now as i am in the middle of moving in to an appartment with my son. Boyfriend-girlfriend break-up thing. But i remain positive in the face of extreme circumstances.
All good things come to those who wait.
My job is a little more stable but the future holds many good things for me i am sure.
thanks for the support over the past few months. I am sure there may be times when you may need it.
Best of luck and many good wishes to you all
