Default Hello

Hi All,

Well having spent the last year hunting the web for info on Canada & immigration I now find I could saved a lot of time by finding you first! (Should have let the kids do it, they're practically wired into the net. )

Have started with the Wiki pages and am overdosing on information, this site is fabulous!!

We (me, OH and the 3 kids) are going to the Emigrate exhibition at the weekend and hoping to get Canada in June for a holiday/recce, so will probably have lots of questions for you all.

Anyhow just wanted to say "Hi", I'm new to forums and haven't posted much before so please be gentle with me.

Thanks,
Sue.

Hi Sue

Welcome to the site.
If you are going to the show at the weekend make a list of questions you want answers to. If you don't the show is very busy and you will find yourself leaving at the end and driving home thinking I wish I had asked that.

regards

Winston

Thank you all for the Welcome.

To be honest we don't know where we want to settle:

To start with it was East; we have friends in Windsor; relatives in Ottowa: it's closer to "home"; and we fell in love with Barrrie for some reason.

Since then we've looked at the West; my OH is a builder/bricklayer and there seemed to be more opportunities in the West; we found a website offering training in a "new trade" (plumbing) and PR in Vancouver which sounds far too good to be true; and we fell in love with the mountains.

As we had now found our thinking wasn't set in stone we started looking at the Middle: we are both from farming backgrounds and the huge rolling farmland was so beautiful; the lakes were a great draw for a fisherman (and that peace & quiet was tempting for me); but trying to build in winter seemed a bit chilly at -30.

So when we go out in June we are spending 10 days in Ontario, then flying to Calgary where we pick up an R.V for 14 days and then fly back from Vancouver. May have a better idea about where we're aiming for after that. Should be Fun.

In the meantime we are trying to set up some meetings with builders/construction companies for when we are there. OH is worried that he'll be unemployed for half the year. Will be posting lots of questions too.

Sorry for the rambling on.

Thanks again,
Sue

Hi Sue,

We've just started the process and have found this site extremely informative - everyone's so willing to help and the advice is a godsend

We're also going to The Emigrate Show (Sandown) - just finishing my toast and we'll be leaving in a minute!! Very excited as last time we went we hadn't decided on a country yet!

We're taking our CVs, just incase...

Have fun at the show,

Anita & Sean

PS - Check out the Wikis, they have info on lots of popular subjects

Hi Sue, welcome and all that good stuff! Tell hubby not to worry too much about not working in the winter months. Even here in the middle of the prairies
(predominantly the coldest region), we can usually work all year round. I have even poured concrete in sub-zero temperatures. There is lots of construction work in all the major cities, especially in the west. Saskatchewan is now the province to watch, as things have really started to take off in the last year or so. No doubt as you troll these bountyful pages, you will get a better idea of locations etc, and like most other immigrants, you will probably wind up knowing more about Canada, than the natives do!
Good luck.

Hi and welcome.

We have also just started getting the ball rolling on our move to Canada and have found this site invaluable. I am also in the building trade (carpenter) and have found other tradesmen on here who have went through the immigration process and offer advice and encouragement. Any questions, someone will know!

Best of luck

Craig & Janis ( the undutchables)
