We havnt been over to Canada yet but I have lots of family who have lived there for a long time. Moved when it was easy to immigrate in the 80's. I am looking to move near to them to start with which is toronto and surrounding areas. Just starting to get ball rolling and trying to understand the points system

Have you done the points test on the CIC website yet? I'm afraid I have no idea how to post a link on here but I'm sure somebody else can help - or just Google it! That'll tell you fairly quickly whether you will be eligible for enough points to go over.
Best of luck, this forum will no doubt help you lots - it's been invaluable for me!

But, since those kinds of applications are taking in the order of five years, you should use a skilled worker application as a last resort.
I suggest you read the BE Wiki article called Getting into Canada quickly.
As you soon will find out, your ability to get into Canada quickly probably is going to be contingent on your securing a job.
So your next step, I would advise, would be to read the series of BE Wiki articles on job hunting in Canada. In my opinion, it is essential for you to absorb what those articles say.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for all you help already. What a great people are on here. I am thinking of the sponser route but have been told this will only give me extra points. I am a director here in the U.K. and I am looking to take my companies over to Canada with me and employ staff over there also. I think I had best go and do the test. Fingers crossed!!

While Canada encourages businesses to come and set up ( this was on advice we sought ) you have to meet certain targets i.e. financial and employ at least one person not family within 2 years it takes longer to get there and were advised to get Skilled worker visa first,
if the business fails and they watch you quite carefully, you have to leave, I am a director of my OH IT business but we felt it was too long and too risky for us, might be different for you, depends how quick you want to get there, not trying to put you off
what does your company do ?
