Hi there. we're just at the start of the process of moving to Canada and can't wait. We're early 30s with 2 young children and hope to move out in 3 years when I finish my contract - currently in Swindon.
Still not sure exactly where we want to move to, but we need to be able to commute to: Victoria, Vancouver, Surrey, Kelowna, Edmonton or Calgary (my wife needs to work in a cancer centre). We're after sunshine, skiing and a lake. - Any recommendations would be gratefully received!

Calgary does have the sunshine and skiing but not many lakes around Calgary.

Not lakes in the recreational sense as in the Okanagan/Shushwap region but there can be a definite lack of sunshine in the winter in that region.

You'll 'ave to excuse the old git, once in a while stuff like that just goes flying overhead and he misses it.

I suppose you could call Lake Louise a recreational lake, but it's a bit bl**dy cold fer swimmin' in.
I still think it has to be Calgary 'cause we have the two more important items on the wish list, sunshine an' skiing. Although I've never understood the desire to go to the top of a mountain and throw yourself off. I'm sure if man were meant to ski he'd have had much bigger feet.

Yous twos is both old gits (well older than me
) cos der is so a lake in Calgary... it's just really, really long, kinda shallow, very narrow, bendy in places and has quite a strong eastward flow to it. Dummies!

Community type lake don't count.
I'm thinkin' "LAKE" as in Okanagan/Shushwap not some puddle in someones backyard.

As for sunshine no argument much more sun in Calgary than the Okanagan and much less of the oppressive heat in the summer
Ducks head and runs for cover.
