Thumbs down Heating Oil

We are fed up with our current oil supplier, but rather surprised to find that every other company we talk to about making spot deliveries now wants a credit application filled out, complete with banking detail/ history, property value, employment history/ salary, inside leg measurement etc etc etc.

I dont mind them having a Credit Card number on file so that they can be assured of being paid, but all this other information seems unnecessarily intrusive to me.

Is it like this everywhere? All I want is someone to deliver oil when I ask them too, I can live without the rest of the hassle.

Having just paid $300 for maintenance on the furnace/ water heater, next time they need replacing I would quite happily ditch oil for propane as a result of all the BS that goes with it, tank certification and all that.

Is oil the kind of product you pay for upfront, on delivery?

If so, I also do not understand the need to ask so many questions.

Or is the cost spread out? In which case, I don't recall my gas or electricity supplier asking for so much information.

Are you not tempted by geothermal & solar for heat/ac and hot water?

Not tempted by the startup costs....

If we had a better well then a water based heat pump might have been an option, but ground based heatpumps are serious money up front to install.

We just want them to deliver as and when. Even when we were on monthly billing before it was just charged to a CC... its not like they dont know where you live!

On challenging them they backup out of requiring half the information, so why ask in the first place..

I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult to do a self-install. Just need to borrow a backhoe and a bit of common sense...
