Default Buying a 20ft container?

Has anyone purchased a 20ft stackable, registered container for shipping to Canada rather than just rented a unit?

We are looking at that option so that we will have an extra secure storage unit on our land where we are buying a property. Once we get it there we will mount it on concrete plynths, clad it in wood to blend it in with the local environment and live in it!.... only joing about the last bit

Just wondering how much a second hand container would cost to buy outright?

Sorry, had to laugh. Buying a container and you're moving to Sooke?

Better to bury the container and have the grow-op under ground.

Why joke about it? - it's not that uncommon to convert them for living space:

If it is currently a certified container, they are expensive. Most containers you find for sale are uncertified and end of life for shipping.

You may also want to check planning and building bylaws to make sure you can do what you want.

I'm joking about it because, as a squaddie, in the Falklands that what we had to do to survive... if you didn't laugh you'd lose the plot!!

Plus...we have a house on the land to move into already.

Cost of a container? Blimey... it's not such a hard ask is it?

Actually, on googling it, they cost about GBP 2k it seems.

Thanks for the input all the same. I now kind of wish I'd googled it in the first place, rather that ask on BE.

A bloke I met somewhere south of Vancouver back in the 90s had a few of those on his lot. He'd converted them into grow ops. For mushrooms of varying types. He sold the mushrooms to restaurants in Vancouver.

The smell inside those things was horrendous.

it's quite a common thing to do actually (rent / buy storage containers and use them as - well storage err containers).

Cheaper than a shed and waterproof
