Have you made the right decision????

Some of you may remember me from my frantic pleading posts over the past year whilst going through what most of you are going through right now. You're in a queue waiting and hoping that at the end of your very long wait you'll get the positive go ahead and be able to start a new life in Canada. Well we finally got to Ottawa after a false start when the RAF said the money was in the bank but it wasn't and had to re-book flights, hotels, cars, rental house, rental car everything (gonna miss those useless UK beaurocrats!) and eventally flew out with the family on Friday 13th July! All I want to say to you all is stick at the process even when you feel like you're never gonna make it and "how much longer do I have to wait!" because it is soooooooooooooooooooooooooo worth it. This has to be the most amazing Country, with the friendliest, most polite, well mannered, helpful people you could ever wish to live with. Everything, but everything is bigger and better than the UK (yeah thats so difficult). My husband and I keep seeing planes in the sky and are convinced they must be empty because who the hell would want to leave this place its amazing. Life is fairer, safer, happier and just absolutely brilliant. I can't believe what sort of lifestyle we used to put up with in the UK and the standards of service and food that were expensive but bad quality. Everything is better quality even the cling film works over here! You will not regret any decision to come and start a new life over here it is truly the best place on earth and the best country I have ever lived in. So keep going with the form filling, saving up the pennies, work hard and get yourselves over here. I won't be using the immigration forum now as its my turn to go to maple leaf or meet and greet but use the forum for guidance only because its nothing like actually being here and your time will come and just grab it with both hands and hold on to it because it truly is FANTASTIC, best of luck to you in your dreams , lots of love The Peeters xxxxx

You sound very happy! I have just returned to the UK on Sunday having visited London Ontario for a reccy. Have always loved it and am now at the very very beginning of the process. I'm looking forward to being in your shoes.
Good luck.

I concur. Although I wish no other Brits knew about it. My quality of life is exponentially better out here.

No offence people.

It is nice to see such an optimistic post... I'm at the begiining of what I guess is going to be a long old road! I'm glad you believe it's worth it!

Didn't read it all because the lack of paragraphs made my eyes hurt, but great to know you are enjoying yourselves.

That's an interesting point actually. When I first moved to Nova Scotia is was really pissed off to discover that there were already lots of other brits here! I thought I had discovered one of the worlds best-kept secrets and nobody else knew about it and I kind of resented other brits who had either found it before I did or "copied" me by moving afterwards.

I don't know why but it bothers me a lot less now. I think one of the things I have definitely learned is that everyone is moving for the same reasons and there is generally a big difference between the brits that are moving to Canada and trying to escape the problems and the brits that are patriotically staying behind and accepting all the problems as part of "normal" life. Brits who move to Canada (a country where you generally have to endure a harsh winter) generally share some common values of decency, family life, the value of good education and being polite and helpful to others in my view.

Agreed. I see alot of Brits in Toronto on vacation. More often than not their behaviour makes me wince with shame.

The fact as a rule we are obnoxious drunks doesn't help much. I hate the sense of entitlement that most Brits have.

I could really rant on all day. A good article can be found here:

I'm only 26, but have realised for many years what a complete mess the UK is becoming.

If you want the transcript e-mail me.

Yes, well, I'm not entirely sure that Canada is "truly the best place on earth" but it's good to see that the OP has had such a great moving experience.

As always it depends on everyone's personal circumstances as to how much of a success moving here will prove to be. I have a more toned down opinion of Canada but it's quite nice here having gradually got more settled. Paradise it's not though! ;)

We would agree entirely. Now we know why they call it rip off Britain. My family love it here and for the first time in our lives are content with our lot. It's not perfect but what a great country and people.

Good luck to those wanting to live their dream...!

With you all the way. Not paradise, but far closer than anything we've experienced.
We had highs and lows when we first arrived, but we wouldn't swap it for anything. OH says he'll only go back in a box.....

ditto. The definition of "paradise" is a tricky one anyway. We once went to live and work on a Carribbean island - it was paradise by most traditional definitions. But it wasn't for us. Day-to-day I much prefer living in Canada
