I have seen a job in hamilton, I have been looking at the logistics of working there and commuting from toronto; or vice versa?
I would also like to hear from people who live in that area or have moved there in the last couple of years to give me their views.
1.Quality of life
2.Things to do
3. Social life in Hamilton
4. Nice places to live if I commuting is not an option.
Thanks

OK, here goes......
I live in Hamilton mountain and contrary to what you will read on ex-pats, it is a great place to live.
There are many beautiful areas, trails, waterfalls, excellent school, universities and of course people etc.
Hamilton has a downtown area that is not so nice, however every town can make claim to this.

Depends what you want. Hamilton is not Y&E which you previously talked about. Commuting is not fun. Although people do it I wouldn't consider the idea of doing Toronto to Hamilton daily. Again, depends what you want and how you want to spend your time.

I work in Hamilton, based in the downtown area which frankly is a dump! I commute from the Brant County area, which is about 40 minutes drive away. In my view it is not commutable from Toronto (unless you like heavy traffic of course).

I grew up in Hamilton and I am moving back there after 20 years in the UK. The commute to TO is not pleasant and public transport stinks, but I would rather live in Hamilton than TO. The mountain is very pretty (yes and downtown is a mess) and you are close to the wine region, USA 1 hour away, and pretty towns of Ancaster and Dundas. Perhaps you should consider Burlington, which is next to Hamilton and closer to TO with better public transport. It is more expensive, but not as expensive as Toronto.
Hope this helps

Thanks to all who have responded to this thread. I now have a better picture of how hard it would be to commute. I do still want to live downtown toronto, but must also try and get a job as quick as I can. So I am trying to be open and flexible about looking for work.
