I know that Halloween in Canada, can no way be as big as in America, but is it bigger than in the UK.
Is there much trick and treating ?

Hi Rob
Can't answer your question as am still in the UK but...
When I left the house after dark tonight the air smelt of halloween, I know it sounds crazy but it just did....
Maybe it's because it's dark early I dunno, but I loved it.
halloween rocks!
even when you're 30!

If the displays in the shops are anything to go by, I'm dreading it! I've never seen so much stuff in my life. I think it is huge here. We have two young girls so there is no way out. They each have an outfit (from the UK last year, and that will do nicely thank you) and they have a little 'candy' bag, ready for the off. They said their neighbours usually bring a pillow case to collect the candy. A pillow case, for God's sake!! What the hell do you do with a pillow case full of sweets. Disgusting !!
Anyway, bah humbug - I don't really get it. But the kids will love it. Something inherently weird about dressing up to scare the living daylights out of everyone, scare toddlers s***less, and go begging sweeties from strangers - when we spend the other 364 days of the year telling them not to accept said sweeties !!??
One has a vast array of 'decorations' to adorn your abode - again, the sheer amount of stuff is amazing. I rather took to a cute black cat decoration and some spider webs - but I kind of resisted the urge!!!
If you don't wish to participate, go out, lock the doors, and don't put any pumpkins within view. Otherwise, buy half the display of Walmart sweets and put it in a large candy bowl and stand back. I'm rather tempted to offer mandarins and apples and see what kind of response I get

I am thinking I'll buy a pumpkin this year and let the kids loose on it. I got a wonderful recipe for a spicy pumpkin and apple soup one year in Tesco!

If it's a newer area with lots of young families expect lots of kids knocking at your door.

If it's an older neighborhood like ours then you may as well buy something you like because there'll be a lot left over.

WOW Halloween is huge here! LOVE IT!
Daughter is already worried about not getting a cool costume - worried about the shops selling out! She wants to take a pillowcase this year for more goodies. I just bought three pillowcase size trick or treat bags for $1 so she can give her friends one if need be.
I love the pumkin carving and all that pullaver(sp?). We have a wickety witch and eyeballs and a hobgoblin and stuff. Hubby says we HAVE ENOUGH OF THAT CRAP NOW! My aim is to buy a new something every year.
What I do like is that it all stops around 8pm - starts really early for the little kids and the stragglers are later, as soon as you turn lights off and make sure pumpkins are out no more callers.
Incidently we got more callers last year in an older are than we did the previuos year in the newer area we lived in.

. It's been a long long time since I went trick or treating in Canada, 35 odd years, we used pillowcases then, went home half way through the evening to dump the stash and back out again. Sadly, some crazies started putting razor blades and pins in the candy and apples and everything had to be searched. That was Toronto.

We're in an apartment so don't get people coming to the door but last year they had a sign downstairs for people to leave sweets in one of the office rooms so kids can come and take sweets from there rather than going to every door in this building which is quite a few lol
As for everything else, I think we first bought something for Halloween around the end of August because I think it was around my birthday and last time we went to the store which was over a week ago pretty much everything was sold out.
Weekend just gone we actually unpacked all our Halloween gear and have been slowly putting it up for a party we're having on the 27th
