Go for it!
Nova Scotia is wonderful, in fact we regret the day we ever decided to move to Toronto.
It's a very small city, but the people are wonderfully friendly, the surrounding countryside is beautiful and it has a great 'seafaring' history.
It's also much more like the UK in many respects, i.e sense of humour, drinking culture etc.

It beats Toronto anyday.

We could go back to the UK but for the reasons most of you left it's not a viable option. We have been looking at Halifax and NS in general and would really appreciate any help you may be able to give us. We are looking for a safe, child friendly environment with a good public school system and child social infrastructure. I work from home and my company is prepared to allow me to work anywhere in the world. Any suggestions?

British humour and a good pub would be a plus!.

Hi there,

First time posting, but have browsed site before. Was excited when I saw this thread - we're off to Halifax for a recce next Sunday. Hubby has been contacting recruitment co's in the area, and so far only 2 have agreed to meet with him. We're starting to think the chances of getting a job remotely will be almost nil, unless you have a personal contact in a company. Your post was encouraging! Any tips?

Thanks
CJ

Hi There,
my hubby just sent his resume to alot of companies and the one reply he got he now works for. We came for our reccie last Feb, we moved here 5 weeks ago. Rod/rosie had interview at same place, although they are doing pnp, where we did skilled workers. But I would say give out your resume to whoever you can. Good luck, where in Halifax will you be looking at? We live in Dartmouth now but hope to be in Fall River by November time.

BJ is a Business Manager in a supply chain management company. So anything in Procurment/Supply Chain Management/Materials etc in the manufacturing sector, or electronics/pharmaceutical. Because it's so general, we're pretty sure there won't be a skills shortage in this area. He's approached some of the larger electronics companies in the Greater Halifax area, but no luck so far - they tend to use recruitment co's unless you have a personal contact in there.

We're going to be staying with friends in Dartmouth when we're there next week (week of 21st). We've hard Fall River is nice so that'll be one of the places we visit. Our plan is to see as many recruitment co's as we can (though not to saturation point) and travel around as much as we can. We've made contact with an estate agent who is happy to show us around a few properties in different areas/price brackets to give us an idea. Though that's a difficult one - we've tried to pinpoint what kind of salary BJ would be on, but there aren't many jobs for him advertised. What kind of field is your hubby in?

Hey CJ

Do you mind listing the recruitment agencies you've contacted, or giving a few anyhow if there's too many, or maybe there's a site that lists them? I'm looking for some - we are going to Halifax in October for 10 days - and want to arrange meetings with a few. We have a few contacts in companies and are arranging meetings that way as well, but thought some recruitment companies would also be a good idea. It's mainly for my hubbie - he works in IT - as I'm freelance.

Anyhow, the one's we have so far:

www.kma.ns.ca
www.aplin.com
www.mergisgroup.ca
www.spherion.ca

Hmmm, I'm sure we have more than those, but I can't find them at the moment! Don't know if these are of any help to you.

Also, was wondering about the estate agent. We would love to have a look at a few houses to get an idea of things when we are there. Was the agent quite happy to show you around understanding that you wouldn't be buying at the moment? You were totally open about this? Which firm? I'm just thinking that for myself, selling my house, I'd be a bit annoyed if the viewers weren't actually in a position to buy - I know this happens though. Though you never know for us we might be able to buy in October, depending on how our sale goes. We can always dream anyhow!

Gee, with all these questions, you wouldn't know that I'm actually from Halifax and moving home!

Thanks for any help

Charmaine

Hi CJnBJ,
my hubby drives fuel tankers for a company based in NS although still training. Not too long until he drives himself, he is home every day, not one of theses driving jobs where they are away weeks at a time. I also start my job in 2 weeks time as pre-school teacher, so excitied about that. If you want to get together when your in dartmouth let me know.

Hi Charmaine,

Thanks for those sites - we'll take a look.

We got a copy of the yellow pages from Halifax and also some websites:

http://www.novascotiaimmigration.com...nuId&search=52
http://www.greaterhalifax.com/locate...ving/jobs.aspx
http://www.robertsonsurrette.com/
http://www.talentworks.biz/

The estate agent is an aunt of the friend we're visiting in Dartmouth, so I think that's why she's agreed to do it.

Our situation, since we planned this trip to NS, has changed - BJ's company is closing its Scottish operation at the end of the year. So, although we were taking this recce trip to NS seriously, it's now going to be even more important. Having said that, we're not going to make any desperate, impulsive decisions. Never having been to NS we're prepared to like it, but still think it's not for us. Emigrating is something we know you don't do lightly.

Good luck with your house sale,
CJ

Hi Charmaine
Have you tried having alook at www.jobspress.com you should find jobs listed there and also agencies. What part of HRM do you want to live in? I think Wendy has a good realestate agent that is willing to give you a look around homes, but heck you can always wait till Sundays and see all the open houses!
