Hi,
I have my application for immigration being processed at present. I am undecided whether I should aim to settle in and around Halifax, NS or Calgary, AB.
Any helpful suggestions from people would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Bob

When I went to Calgary I must admit i found it a bit too much like England in the sense that it was densly populated everything was over priced.
On the other hand being able to wake up and look at the rockies in the distance was an amazing aspect life.
I loved visting the rockies and being able to go up salter mountain on the gondola or even walking the landscape are experiance that i shall never forget.
In terms of being able to get work I would choose Calgary because Halifax is a bit short employment wise.
Also the House prices in Calgary is enough to make you choke on your morning coffee so be careful when moving that you have the financial backing that you would need to make that move.
Hope this helps.

One wonders whether the question is a genuine one given the way this board is heading.

What do you do / want to do in Canada? (Employment)
What do you do / want to do in Canada? (Leisure)
Are high property prices an issue?
Do you prefer dry heat / cold to brisk ocean breezes and lots of snow?
etc.

You've said nothing as to your preferrences (other than you loved Halifax when you were there). What do you do for a living, what does your spouse do, do you like winter sports i.e. skiing etc, etc.
Why does your brother say Alberta would be a better fit?
In other words throw us a bone.

Cheers

Ok then. I'm an Environmental Scientist with 6 years experience in (mostly) marine environmental research. However, the experience is equally transferable to freshwater research or land based work. I am currently studying for a Masters in Environmental Engineering which will allow me to work anywhere (geographically).
My wife is an architect (who has a sideline in art).
In terms of leisure, we both enjoy the outdoor lifestyle. We like hiking and skiing and also enjoy being by the sea.
Property prices are not going to scare us off if we find something in a place that we like. I'm well aware that the east coast is cheaper.
In terms of weather I don't really care. I'm very much of the opinion that if it's cold you put more clothes on, if it's raining you wear a waterproof.
I guess my first post contained far too little information, but what I really want to know which would you recommend, and why, based on your ideas, rather than what you think I want to hear.
Also, an negative impressions about the 2 places would great too.
Thanks.

Please reply so i can witness someones opinion being rebuked.
I don't mind if you do not agree with my post because you are not me and we have different views but If the Original Poster doesn't like (like me) being in a big city then he will appreciate the fact that i have stated this.
On the other hand if he likes this then he can go "thats where i want to be".
This is the sort of negative post people have been complaining about.
