I mentioned above that my ex is going to Halifax to look at the tall ships. She's leaving Friday morning and, I'd guess, will arrive late Saturday. She hasn't organised anywhere to stay and will be looking for something cheap; a motel rather than the Lord Nelson. She has a car. Any ideas?

Try the Traveler's Motel or the Esquire Motel, both on the Bedford Highway. Clean and functional, but a bit 70's design still in the bathrooms. Really comfy beds though, and cheap.

Re: Halifax
Thanks for all the suggestions. The ex runs an organic food co-op, one of her customers lives in a place called Lower Sackville and has offered a room for the week, so she's set.
By process of elimination I guess the daughter must be on the Appledore V: http://www.tallshipsnovascotia.com/s...ils.aspx?id=28 she said she's sailing on a lazy boat, no need to go aloft to furl, and I know she joined the ship in Detroit; that one sails out of Michigan. She said that before setting out for Halifax they sailed around for a couple of weeks with bunches of kids from juvey (tall ship funding is nearly always connected with undertaking social initiatives) all of whom wore hip-hop clothing and had to be issued with lines to keep their pants up. She went ashore on Kelleys Island with a bunch of them who had never been out of metro Detroit. The wind came up and capsized their dory so they couldn't get back to the ship and were stranded overnight. That was a panic because Kelleys Island is in Ohio and they weren't supposed to take the passengers out of state. Sounds like another typical summer, she'll appear for the obligatory overnight visit before starting school again, deeply tanned, full of exciting stories and flat broke. I think I once said I aspired to be jealous of my children. This is the ship she started on : http://www.tallshipsnovascotia.com/s...ils.aspx?id=37 I've been out to the end of the yard in calm weather in the Toronto harbour and have some respect for people who do that on Lake Superior or on the ocean. |
