Can anyone point me in the direction of nice gyms in the SW & NW of Calgary. I am looking for something that I guess could be classed as a health club, similar to 'Fitness First' or 'Esporta' in the UK.
Thus I would like somewhere that has fitness eqipment as well as free weights and machines, a pool, hottub etc and a coffee shop :-)
Not asking much am I!! :-)
Is anyone a member of a gym? What are the typical costs
Thanks

World Health club has numerous locations around the city and have everything you mentioned. I paid about 50 bucks a month to be a member. A little more cash and you can use all of the gyms. but I was cheap and chose to use one in particular. The wife paid for a block of sessions with a personal trainer there, who was great. World Health is not your 'posh health club', but we've been happy with it.

In addition to those that have been mentioned already .......
Eau Claire YMCA - Regular annual fee is $662.90. Plus Membership, which includes towel service and some other stuff, is $1,338.26. It's located at the north end of the downtown core.
Talisman Centre - Annual fee is $699.00. It's near the south end of Stampede Park, accessible from Erlton Stampede Train Station. The address is 2225 Macleod Trail South.
My older son goes to Fitness on 5th, which is part of the YWCA, in the downtown core. It's an older building, not as new or as fancy as the other two I've mentioned. But it has a swimming pool, free weights and machines. Annual membership costs $790. My son used a personal trainer there when he first got started on his weight lifting program, and he also used the services of the in-house physiotherapist after he'd broken his ankle.
The University of Calgary, in the northwest quadrant, has fantastic facilities -- swimming pool, every kind of free weight and exercise machine you can imagine, squash and racquetball courts, speed skating rink, climbing wall, you name it. My younger son, who is a student there, uses the facilities. I believe that members of the public are able to use some (many?) of the facilities, but I don't know how that works.
The City of Calgary's Leisure Centres (Southland Leisure Centre in the southwest quadrant and Village Square Leisure Centre in the northeast quadrant) have what you're looking for.
An annual pass to the Southland Leisure Centre costs $486.00.
The Family Leisure Centre, near Southcentre Mall in the southeast quadrant, also has what you're after.
