We recieved our requests for our passports which we took personally up to the CIC last Thursday 24th June 2010......our medicals run out on 31st July 2010 which means that we have to literally all go and land in Canada (5 of us).
My husband has not been given his start date for his new job so we have to fly over and fly back to sort our and tie up lose ends. We have asked our immigration consultant if we could apply for an extension but she advises that we wait until we recieve the visas next week....my instincts tell me to ask them now but she is te expert. Jim Humphries has been very kind in pointing us in the right direction.
I am really gutted and upset that we have to pay out so much money to fly over and then come back only to have to fly out again at a later date!! We have been told that we have to re- apply for medicals also as visas are only supposed to last as long as the initial medical!! which leads me to thinking our visas will only last 3 weeks? I am so down about this whole process, no support, no help, we've paid out so much money to strive towards our dream and thats all it will be.....a dream, as we do not have the funds to fly out twice in one year. CIC are cruel and support is poor.
Got a feeling we wont be going anywhere and all that money we spent to immigrate, will be lost because no one cares.

Surely that is an error on CIC part>?

To be honest, when i applied for my visas, the time frames involved were always made very clear to me. In addition, I sorted it all out myself.
If a pleb like me could suss such things out for himself, then surely any immigration consultant you are paying as a specialist, should've have given you ample warning that your time was running out?
Admittedly, my application concerned just my wife and myself (not 5 of us), but with that said, everyone else who has emigrated has managed to do so under the exact same constraints as you and so i wonder if you are blaming the right party in your predicament.
Just saying. Good luck though.

Because there was an issue with my husbands medicals which was sorted by Dec 2009, seems like we were literally pushed to the back of the queue and pulled back out again this month!!
Not right.

Ahh but Zoe we need to land before the 31st July in order to activate and apply for PR!! not enough time for us. If I had the thumbs up from immigration consultant to apply for extenstion I would feel alittle better

Describing CIC as cruel makes you sound a bit high maintenance! They have quite clear rules, one of which is landing within 12 months of medical. So from their perspective, you (and your husband's prospective employer) have known since last July that you would need to travel before the end of this July. However, 11 months seems a long time for the medical results to be finalised.
I would recommend reducing your expectations of agencies to care about you. Immigration is a necessary evil for most governments, and there are no votes in making it easy. It takes more than money to fulfil the dream: it takes determination as well. You're going to have to grit your teeth for quite a while yet.

Hi
Try not to panic. I think the other advice you have been given is good, ie wait until you have your passports with visas in ..back, then send a case specific e-mail asking for an extension due to the time it has taken them.... cic to actually deal with your medicals. They do offer extensions and you will need to point out that it is their delay in processing which has led to this situation.
Then try and calmly wait for their response
Keeping it all crossed for you

This seems to be your only to options - I would NOT give up after having spent all the money so far (and also not hope too much for an extension either) as the CIC are very clear that you MUST land within 12 months of the date of your medical.
Hope it works out for you x

And No immigration consultant has not told us about this......she has of late been using the "I'm not sure about that" stance "why dont you wait until you pick up your visa and see what it says" mmmmmm, nice one
oh well I still have time to sort out every thing, I feel inspired. We've come too far and no I am not high maintenance, just feeling sorry for myself, promise I won't do it again.

I know nothing about the process you're going through but maybe after you come over to activate your visa you and your kids could stay and just your husband could go home to sort out the loose ends. It's school holidays so your kids wouldn't be disrupted and you could get on with sorting out your new home?
Like I said, I don't really know much about your application but I know it's tough and frustrating to deal with cic sometimes. They only have limited resources I guess. You could always call and see what they say about applying for an extension too. Your husband should def be asking his new employer for a solid start date!
Hope it all works out, don't let this stumbling block make you give up your dreams of moving out here.
