Default Guelph

Greetings!

I have been offered a job in Guelph and was wondering if anyone out there had experience of that particular city?

Any advice regarding cost of living, housing prices, entertainment would be appreciated.
I have already looked at the Ontario 'tourist info' and Guelph city information websites but personal experiences would be grand.

I visited Guelph last summer, and I liked the city. The housing costs are significantly lower than that of GTA (greater Toronto area), but are higher than in Waterloo Region. If Guelph is a little boring, the GTA is not very far away by highway 401. Waterloo Region is only 10-15 miles away.

Guelph is growing and the city looked nice and clean to me, with no gridlock that you would have to put up with in the GTA.

My sister has lived in Guelph for the last 14 years. She has 2 sons that go to school there. We were both originally from Toronto and she much prefers Guelph. I am moving to Guelph myself sometime this summer from England. I'm expecting to pay 200,000 to 230,000 CAD for a small bungalow. I'm sure you can get a good family-sized house for between 200,000 and 300,000 CAD. I think Guelph has plenty to offer. There is plenty of shopping and there are other towns nearby such as Cambridge, Kitchener, Fergus, etc. I don't think Hamilton and Burlington are that far away either. The www.mls.ca site can give you an idea about house prices. Unfortunately, Guelph has its' own website on there which I don't particularly like. Also, it doesn't show the nearby towns which is frustrating me. As your other reply says Toronto isn't that far away either. However, you do need a car as I don't think there is a train service anymore and the bus service is very slow stopping at all the towns in between.

Hope this helps.

What is your line of work, and why that area? Did you at least visit the area in the past to have a rough idea where it is, what if you don't like it there?

Hmmmmmm....interesting, sounds like the lady here who's husband took a job in london ONT, she hates it down there, and he has had enough too. Now they want to sell the house, all this with months !

Lets hope you don't sound like Gazza
