Default Greetings from Manchester

I have just joined this site and thought I should say a big hello from Manchester .

I am hoping to move to Calgary with my family in the near future, visa's allowing. My husband has just had a job offer and we will be applying under the PNP scheme, so fingers crossed!

I'm looking forward to reading the posts on this site, as I have loads of queries and questions but I'll save them for later.

Bye for now, Jane

Hi all,

We are also in 'sunny' Manchester, UK, moving to Calgary as OH is joining CPS.

For the people who have moved over already how much realistically do you need to make the move and to get settled, also how many are renting or are you all mortgaged ???

Are there good areas / bad areas in Calgary? looking on net for properties and not really sure which areas to look at as it is such a big place.

Thanks all, Stacey.

How longs a piece of string? is the answer to "how much realistically do you need to make the move and to get settled"

Depends on what you've got to move, how you travel and what & where you wish to move too. As a budget I would estimate £4000 shipping £2500 flights $400k-$2.5M House ( Mortgage Deposit at least 25% or you have to pay Indemnity Ins) $20k-$60 motor $10k-$30 other. If you are not starting a job straight off the bat obviously you will need some extra money to cover the out of pocket expenses.

How good can you afford? Avoid the north east of the city. I would consult a realtor as to where to buy and where to avoid (there is no charge for this service, they trust you may buy a property through them and they make 3% of PP).
