If you are looking at alberta try this http://www.tradesecrets.gov.ab.ca/in...cupations.html

Will give the info side of stuff, depends on what electrician you are depends on wages and areas that you work
My OH is industrial electrician and must prove the hours done in his job, plus take all his paper work over to be checked out.
also try http://www.jobbank.gc.ca/prov_en.aspx?Student=No for general wages in your area.

You will also need to read, read and read more before sitting the exam, i understand it is different to the uk sparkie

Alberta and Ontario require that you prove your past experience (QCP) it must cover 72 months (Alberta) to enable you to challenge Red Seal exam. Once your experience and qualifications have been positively assessed, Canadian companies will take you seriously. I managed to secure a conditional offer of employment before I sent my details off to Alberta QCP for assessment (the fee is $450 and its relatively painless).

The yellow book here is online and many of the companies advertise electronic contact details there. I would put together a decent cover letter explaining why you wish to come to Canada and what you can offer a prospective employer. Brush up that CV or as its called here resume and start sending it out ensure you follow up with a phone call to ensure it gets to the right person. concentrate on the medium to large companies and ones that are members of AECA (Alberta Electrical Contractors Association).

In the UK, my most recent position I worked was for WS Atkins as senior consultant / project manager. Here I am but an electrician, but at the moment its a means to an end (watch this space!).

Currently a construction electrician earns $32 +10% 40 hours/wk (0700 to 1500) approximately $70k overtime if worked at time and a half.

Regards
Thomas

Hi

We have been to ontario twice this year, once in january to meet up with people from the company that he works for in the uk (was hoping for company transfer, but sadly automotive industry is v.v.v quiet so no show)

Last visit in august to check out london, ontario as there is loads of work there, been offered a job, but not really what he wants
The area is nice and we liked st thomas as its smaller and nicer than the big city for us.

We have to admit that we have just started to look at alberta, one the wages are better and pnp is easier for us, we have decided now to wait for the house to sell and take a trip over and for him to meet some employers.

He has been checked out with the ministry in ontario and was advised he is red seal, but not sure how this will be in alberta yet, just decided to stop in limbo land until the house sells and then go and have another trip.
What stage are you at? have you applied for SW or are you waiting until job offer ?
if you need any test papers, send me a private message with your email details and ill pass them through

Gill

where in limbo stage as well we have a few things to sort out before we know if we can move.
So at the mo am researching seeing whats best quickest way and trying to sort out a trip over in july for a look round. got two young kids so working round them to avoid draging them all over. hopfully i might be able to get things moving so where able to go end of 2008 early 2009 to be honest sooner the better, tho i know theres alot to sort out.
whats made you pick canada? and how long have us been sorting things out now?
