Myself and my family are due to move out to Okotoks at the beginning of Nov
I know that there are problems finding gp's and family practice's that take new patients. Would anyone know of any in the area of Okotoks. Where would the nearest walk in clinic be as an alternative? and what are people's opinions of these? Thanks for your help.
Kirsty.

Hi Kirsty
There is a walk in clinic in Okotoks that we have used in the past and the service has been great.
Dr Pepple in Elizabeth Street was taking new patients, I don't know if she still has any places left.

Hi there. Re a general answer to your question, I have used a walk in clinic since I arrived in BC and have always found it to be great. I have built up a relationship with one great female doctor and know when she is there so can usually work it so I visit when she is working. (Obviously this wouldn't work so well in urgent cases.)
I actually like the walk-in concept and find it easier to see the doctor than I did when I used a surgery in Hertfordshire. (There the appointment system was run by dragon-like Receptionists who treated you like they were doing you a favour by granting you an appointment two weeks on Tuesday!) Here you just turn up and if the wait is going to be a while then they tell you when you should return for your place in the queue. Very civilised.

I have a great famly doctor, but since he is so good he is often booked a week in advance. So we use a nearby walk-in clinic for immediate needs - sick kids, stitches, etc. The walk-in clinics are typically run well and strictly on a first come first serve basis. You may not get the same doctor every time, but they keep your records on the computer system and so you get consistency of treatment that way.

We also have a brilliant family doctor and doctors surgery. Easy to access a same day appointment any day during the week. As long as you live in the catchment area you're able to sign up as a patient.
We're based in London UK though

Hi Kirsty,
The Okotoks walk in clinic is in the southern half of the town, as you head south, it's on the left immediately before you reach Canadian Tire/Wal Mart, etc.
We're tracking the local doctor situation for a number of families arriving in the next couple of weeks and currently have a solution outside Okotoks (just a couple of spaces left before they close the list again) which will certainly serve as a temporary expedient and possibly a long term solution.
Best wishes with the move across.
Eamonn & Janet.
