Hi,
I've been reading on the net that Canada has a great demand for GPs especially those who have qualified from the UK. I've been looking on the federal skills homepage and GP is not on the top 27 skills in demand?

My husband is a GP, born and qualified in UK, we're moving over to Ontario in January on a temp work permit. They are short on GP's, and each province has it's own requirements, but it's not an easy process.
In Ontario, whilst they're short on GP's, you have to find a practice with somebody who is able to supervise until you sit two exams, not all family physicians are.

How long did it take you guys to apply?
Thanks

It's taken two yrs from start of applying to going over for the job- could potentially have done it sooner, but there are various stages to the whole process which you have to follow. Health Force Ontario are very useful for providing correct information.

But it should change again next year. Whether or not GP's will be put back on it is anybody's guess though.
Good luck.

I'm sure they're needed here as they're also needed in the UK.

Health care is a provincial responsibility and our current federal government couldn't give a flying one about it.

The federal government may not care (although if that's true, why have GP's been on the list every year until last year?), but the provincial governments were certainly given the opportunity to have their say too.

HRSDC were also consulted (they do LMO's so presumably are fairly aware of the jobs most in demand), together with all provincial governments, the general public and over 700 stakeholders.
