Got IT-Job!!
#1
It's one of the largest financial firms (banks) in Canada. Not bad, I guess.
I dunno if this is a matter of luck, coincidence, or... But Thanks God!!
It's only less than a month, got a job offer!!
Background: 4 years IT experience in financial firms (in Japan)
My timeline is as follow:
- Sept 1999: sent PR application
- Jan 2000: received AOR
- Jan'04: did medicals
- May'04: PR decision made (more than 4 years waiting!! Wuiihhh...
)
- Nov'04: arrived in Ontario-Canada, staying for 2 weeks
- 3rd Week Jan'05: returned back to Canada and start job searching
- 1st Week Feb'05: getting phone calls from recruitment agency
- 2-3rd Week Feb'05: first and followed by second job interview (meeting 4 managers). Then the next day decision made, got the job!
- 4th Week Feb'05: finished signing and preparing all the paper works.
Since I'm new in Canada, got a little bit stuck in providing reference persons who are residing in Canada (Citizen or PR, e.g. teacher, volunteer work organizer, etc.)
- 2nd Week Mar '05: (hopefully will) start working
I thought, IT market is almost dead in Toronto and I was preparing to start with a low paying job or switch to other jobs to wait till IT job market is coming back.
It turns out IT-Toronto is not really that bad, at least for me
Good luck to others who are still searching.
Rgds,
eyey

Congrats!
Good luck with the job.
Better to come prepared for rough times and be pleasantly surprised when things go yor way than to come expecting the streets to be paved with gold and find out the hard way that they arent.
Thats three positive posts in one day here...I need to go lie down!

Congrats on your new job. And is no coincidence, you deserve it so Enjoy *S*
I am in Kelowna and i must say i am surprised of the number of jobs i see around the place. Granted they are minimum wage jobs, packing shelves shop assistants those kind of jobs. But it does seem that there is work available here if people are not too fussy in what they do.
For me it keeps me inspired that when i am able to start looking for work that there is jobs out there. I am not sure what i want to do yet (health care or tourism) so i am going to use the waiting time to my advantage to do a course or some such thing.
Again Congrats and thanks for posting your Great news *S*

I'm in IT and have heard it's difficult to get work in Toronto. What area of IT are you in? What qualifications do you have?

I used to worked in IT Dept. for Financial Firms (Securities, Back Office System, Reporting).
I think, the qualification didnot really matter when I got the job, but my previous job experience did.
FYI, I have a SUN Java Programmer certification.
HTH.
