Hi everyone
My partner leaves for Canada 2 weeks today to start work and to find us a family home.
He will be taking with him tools of the trade, we are aware that these will be subject to goods and services tax but we wondered if any one knew roughly how much the tax will cost us? Obviously the move is a huge expense and we need to make sure that we have accounted for everything. He will be taking roughly 30kgs in tools. So if you have done a similar thing or you have any info your advice would be very much apreciated.
Thanks in advance
Wendy

Will he be landing in Canada as a PR? Or is he already PR? (Or is he a Canadian?)

GST is 5%. Customs Duty will depend on the items and the country of manufacture. Could be another 6.5%-7% if they come under 82.04
and ill check on manufacturing country too. Thankyou

Yeah we did last time, but they already arrived last time we came. I hope im right in thinking that we can do another one this time as weve been out of the country over a year. We stayed 6 months last time, came back because of a health scare, so trying again with a whole lot of different items.
tools were FedExed last time and no tax was charged!!!
