Goodbye.....

As it looks like our 'Canadian Experience' is not to be the time has come for BE and I to part company.

It has been getting harder and harder to read (both positive and negative) posts from those who are starting their new lives, knowing that I will not now be joining you. I sit here with a lump in my throat after reading a really positive post from Lvh76 - I wish you well with all my heart!

I will really miss some of you (CP, Mandymoochops, Dollface, Novocastrian, Dbd33, Alan2005, 4bells, Miss Clinique, Piffpoff, El_Richo, RICH among too many others to mention), I will certainly miss those of you who have made me laugh over the last 5 years - even those no longer with us because they just had to say something else!

So good luck all of you, especially those 2007ers still waiting.

Jo (AKA T-Pot) :scarper:

I've moved this thread to the main part of the forum, just so that more people will see it.

I wish you the best of luck for the future, wherever it takes you.

Not sure about your story, but I seem to remember your name from a long while back and think you have been waiting a very long time for a step forwards:(

All the very best of luck for the future:)

I don't know the background either and it may not seem it at the moment but things may work out better for you in the future this way.

Life has many things that change and you never know what's around the corner so the usual Brit thing of chin up and carry on smiling as best you can.

Good luck in the future and pop in every now and then to abuse some of the usual suspects on here....

T-Pot forgive if you've already mentioned it but why are you now not coming - can we all not brainstorm to give maybe some new ideas????

Sorry you haven't been able to realise this particular dream. Perhaps there's another one waiting just around the corner.

Good luck!

+1. There must be something or some avenue you could explore? I am happy to help in any way I can. :)

Hi T-Pot,

I just wanted to say best of luck and for every 'wow Canada is great' thread there is a 'Canada sucks' thread to counter it so the grass definitely isn't always greener and the reason my post is so positive is because I still feel like I'm on hol. As soon as reality kicks in, I'm sure I'll be hankering to be back in the UK. I hope everything works out for you xxxx

Re: Goodbye.....

thanks all for your lovely messages. We are among the 2007 applicants that are not yet in process and will therefore be 'binned'. I haven't exactly put my life on hold but am a but miffed that after 5 years of waiting we are no further forward.

I have looked at other routes into Canada but don't seen to meet the criteria, plus OH haa lost interest so feel it's time to move on to something else - not sure what that is yet but I'm sure something will come up.

So long and thanks for all the fish.......

I suppose it depends on what part of the UK you came from. We came over from South Devon, so to be honest, Calgary and the rest of Alberta are a major disappointment. However, a friend of my wife's came from Bradford, and wouldn't go back there for any price!

T-pot sorry to hear you are leaving us. I wish you all the very best and I am sorry you are one of many who have become a victim of circumstance of the pre 2008 queue.

All the best mate. Canada is an amazing country. I am sorry and ashamed that the current signifying order has done this. They are..... well, you know! Disgusted and gutted! :(

All the best.

Actually it's not all bad news - while Canada kept me waiting I got busy and acquired a couple of qualifications. I found out yesterday that this means I have enough points now to apply for emigration to New Zealand

One door closes and another door opens.....

I may well still be lurking about!

Good news. Sounds like it wasn't Canada in particular you were aiming for, just 'somewhere else'.... maybe it's working out for the best.

Yes, this is the key thing - everything is relative and subjective. Much depends on your personal circumstances. My kids would have to be dragged to the UK. We had an extended visit there a few years ago and, although they liked some parts, they just couldn't see themselves living there. I prefer North America (could live in Canada or the US) but my wife and I can at least picture ourselves living quite happily in certain parts of the UK - at least in theory. Of course you can get yourself into an unhappy situation anywhere. People have moved from unhappy situations in the UK to happier situations abroad - and vice versa. You can't always accurately judge and label an entire country based on just your own personal experience. It's possible for someone who is unhappy in Canada to move to a much happier situation within Canada. Same goes for the UK. Much about happiness actually depends on attitude. Some people just make themselves unhappy.

Canada was my choice, OH wanted NZ. When we first started looking at emigrating for our next big adventure we met the criteria for Canada but not NZ. How things change

Re: Goodbye.....

I'm sorry it didn't work out the way you wanted. Being shafted by a bureaucratic bollox-up is frustrating at best although more probably soul destroying. Although I tend to agree with el radicchio, not much point moving somewhere like Canada unless you've made a packet beforehand and are retiring or you've got a brilliantly paying excellent job that makes having to be here bearable, I think the UK has more to offer you.

Re: Goodbye.....

I have a few friends move to NZ. One couple came home after a year because the pay was shit and they hated it.

The other couple still live there and constantly complain about the way of live, chav mentality of locals, the weather, work, and the distance and cost to actually get anywhere else.

Still, may your dreams come true and your life be full of awesomeness. I hope your next 5 years are as fruitful as the last

Are you eligible for NZ now though? NZ seems to go down well with older immigrants, but not so much with younger ones. But the thing is as a NZ citizen you have certain rights in Australia as well.

My brother has lived in NZ for a number of years with his family and while it's not perfect, they seem very happy. I on the other hand, live in Canada with my family and we are also very happy. I think because he's on North Island and I'm on Vancouver Island, our circumstances and life styles are pretty similar.

Good luck - wherever you end up!

The job I do now has an identical job description to the equivalent in NZ, if I apply and am successful they may be prepared to offer me a job to give me the required points while I apply for residence/work permit. With a job offer I appear to have 185 points.

It's worth a shot, if it doesn't work we'll try something else - or just get bored with the while idea and move to Cornwall...

I moved over to Canada in 2000 and its great here, but we took a family trip to NZ and Aus last year and loved it over there (so much I'd love to make another move). NZ is such a beautiful country! glad you have a plan forming, some things happen for a reason I guess ;-)
