hi everyone,

its lovely to hear of all your storied emmigrating as families and couples. My boyfriend doesnt want to come with me though, so i was looking for some positive comments from single girls who have made it over there and can tell me its worth losing a guy over. :huh:

Hi,

I can't tell you i've done it yet, or done it alone but welcome to the board. From my trips over there and from speaking to people recently on the phone or via e-mail, everyone appears really friendly and I would guess you wouldn't be without friends for long.

My brother recently moved to NY with work on his own, he is having a ball and doesn't regret moving at all.

I guess that depends on the guy... but my hunch is that if you want to go and he doesn't, you both might have very different approaches to life and different life goals anyway.

I moved both to England (I'm from Canada) and back to Canada on my own and, although very difficult at times, there is a huge sense of freedom and satisfaction in travelling/migrating solo.

I'd say go for it. :thumbup:

... although I should qualify this by saying I'm an independent sort.

I came over single (not a girl though) now I have a canadian wife, couple of kids yadda yadda. Its all good.

Go for it. You only live once and it will be an adventure - full of ups and downs, and that's life. Being single will make it all the more of an adventure, and if it doesn't do it for you, come back - nothing lost, and a wonderful story to tell your kids one day when you have met Mr. right....clearly you haven't yet!

My Mum emmigrated to Northern Rhodesia, now Zambia to work for the Forestry Department way back in 1958 - she went all by herself. The flight took 7 days to get there in those days!!!:eek: (Now about 9 hours)
She learned how to drive in wildest Africa and even crashed her car into an Aardvark while taking her test!!!
She met my Dad there and the rest is history....
There was no email etc. then, letters took weeks, and phone calls had to booked weeks in advance and cost a fortune.
So, things are a bit easier today so you will be fine.
I moved here from SA 12 years ago on my own, now a citizen and have had a wonderful adventure, now it's time for the next one - role on Canada.:thumbsup:

Hi there,

I may be in the same position very soon....I want to go OH doesn't. My heart says go for it, cos don't want to spen life in regret and YES I can always come back...suppose better to have tried than never tried at all.....So I'm going for it!!

Full of nerves as will arrive with no family, no friends but am sure that won't last for long..

Well, just do it. Canada is a great place and surely worth a year for an adventure, and then who knows..... you may love it and want to stay for a while.:thumbsup:
Remember, being single it's easier to make friends, so you will have a good time.:thumbup:

Got a job with CPS so lots to look forward to...its not as if the family is all in the Uk, brother in Tazmania, one in Saudi and the other soon to France....so may as well keep it in the family!!

I am going it alone. Will be emigrating with my 15 year old son. I moved from South Africa to the UK and will be moving once more. Just believe in yourself and do what you feel is right for you. Never regret anything in this life. You only have one shot at it and this is real life is not a rehearsal.

Such positive support from everyone....which is fantastic. I suppose its no different to being single over here than overthere....but much more exciting!!
