A glimmer of hope
Some may know of mine and my husbands plans of moving back to the UK after being in Nova Scotia for nearly 3 years. I have been involved in a number of threads/posts on here defending our intended move but also considering other peoples views/opinions on moving back to England or elsewhere in Canada etc. Anyhow, so prior to us coming to the decision that we should go back to the UK we had been looking into moving elsewhere in Canada, but after applying for numouros jobs and as per normal hearing nothing back, we decided that we couldnt sit here waiting around for something to happen and that we should be pro active in organizing getting back to England.
So the last few weeks have been pretty crazy, getting the dogs veterinary requirements organized, getting OHs qualifications from Canada verified in the UK so he can work once we get there, I have been looking into enrolling in an MSc - application and eligibility requirements etc, we have been busily working on the house so that it will be ready to sell in the spring - we wouldnt be looking at going back to the UK till the fall but still seems to have been a wild few weeks! AND THEN, yesterday, low and behold, an email.....................relating to a job I applied for on January 7th - hadnt heard a whisper until yesterday! I applied for it on a bit of a whim as the prospects etc were so outrageously good, had never really thought they would be interested in us. Oh but they are .... Manager couple of a ranch/spa in the Rockies......could this be for real??? Could my original dream/wish list still be fulfilled here in Canada :fingerscrossed: Holy crap my head is spinning! Will continue to plan for England, if (holds breath) this job is a real opportunity we will have absolutely nothing to loose, and if it doesnt work we will return to the UK anyhow. But to work with horses in the hospitality industry at a 4.5 star resort in the Rocky Mountains................crazy  Just goes to show you need to consider everything and have an open mind - I truly hope this is the break we have been waiting for, but if not, it has renewed my enthusiasm for continuing to apply for jobs elsewhere in the country as we cant leave for England till August anyways. POSITIVE MENTAL ATTITUDE! Watch this space  |
Re: A glimmer of hope
Wow! Good luck!

Re: A glimmer of hope
Good luck with that.........I know how hard it is to break into the work arena here.
I have had my ups and downs these few weeks.....from three jobs "put on hold" after two hour interviews each time.....to the renter of our UK house seemingly having done a runner so worrying about morgage payment......to getting this month's rent for UK house....to getting my first level of security clearance today which will/should open more job opporunities. Keep the chin up. JB |

Re: A glimmer of hope
Thanks guys! Still not 100% sure why I felt the need to create a thread, maybe due to my lack of interaction with other people? as I can hardly discuss our plans of moving with my work colleagues!
Crazy how communication in my life now is all 'Cyber'! Got to love facebook, messenger and skype! My husband had never used a computer in his life up until we moved here - now he is a whizz as he see skype as his true life line. ~~~~~~~~~~ Keep the Positive Energy flowing ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |

Skype is great as we have a stand-alone skype phone that does not require a computer. All the family know they can call any time of the day and it diverts to an answer phone if we are not in. We have also set a UK number that diverts to our Skype phone so they can call using mobiles and other relatives who are not online can use this as well...all at UK rates  |
Re: A glimmer of hope
You left Blighty for a reason(s) so why go back ? return for a visit then embrace your new life in Canada. It will save you $$$$$$

Re: A glimmer of hope
Sugar Plumb - I appreciate your enthusiasm. If you were bored enough you could always do a search on this forum and you will find plenty of threads on here where I have detailed my reasons!!
Unfortunately however my new life in Canada right now is pretty rubbish (after 3years of trying to make a go of it, I might add) - so forgive my cynicism with regards to 'making it work' - my question is 'at what cost?' and I dont mean financial!- its certainly already cost me my friends (obviously I still have them they are just very far away!), social life and career. Sticking it out to save face is not in my vocabulary - instead I will embrace change with an open mind and see where it takes me, be that elsewhere in Canada or back in good old blighty! ;) No regrets. |

Re: A glimmer of hope
That's just the type of job I would absolutely love to have - and sounds much better than going back to the UK - very best of luck (and watch out for the bears!):)

Re: A glimmer of hope
Sounds like an exciting opportunity. Fingers crossed and all that.
On the giving it a go (or not) and moving back to the UK thing. Never ever feel the need to justify or defend your actions. This is simply an internet forum where opinions are expressed. It's your damn life & if you want to move back to the UK or anywhere else, what the hell do a bunch of people on an internet forum know about what you should or shouldn't do?;) |

All the best Sammypeeps!! It's great you've got such a positive and open-minded attitude about everything.
Wow... working at a hotel in the Rockies... sounds great! Where abouts is it? Keep us updated on what you decide to do! :) |
