Hello

I have just got my PR status. I am awaiting my PR Card which should arrive in about 2 weeks. However, I have a job offer and they will not allow me to start until I get my SIN. To get my SIN I need my PR Card. Is there anyway of getting my SIN without my PR card even if I have a job offer?

Didnt need our PR card to get SIN number. We just went down there with our passports and landing paper that was stapled inside and 20mins later all 4 of us had our sin numbers.

Thanks for the quick reply. How long ago was this and in which province, city and did you apply for your PR status from with in Canada. I was told by the immigration officer that I had to wait until my PR Card arrived but was legally able to work. I also checked out

Ditto for us too. This was in Calgary, Alberta. I've never heard that a requirement of obtaining a Sin Number was a PR card. Your COPR/work permit is all the documentation that the authorities need to show you are entitled to work, the passport is required for ID

I have the IMM 5292 - Confirmation of PR and a stamp in my Passport. I hope this is enough. I think I will go to the HRDC downtown and try and get my SIN.

Same here, went the next day after landing and got our sin numbers there and then, even got the kids theirs too. All she done was looked over our landing papers, passports and then printed off our sheets with our numbers in them, Cards should arrive in the next 3 to 4 weeks we where told.

This is what we were told - our cards actually arrived within a week !!

We done this in september 18th 06 i believe. We are in BC. Lady never asked us for PR card just landing paper. Printed out sheet with our number on there and then and card arrived exactly a week after. We applied outside of canada at london.

So I went to the HRDC downtown and I was not allowed my SIN until I get my PR Card. She told me it was because I applied within Canada. No problem though. My PR Card arrived today so I can now get my SIN tomorrow. Happy Days!!!
