I have been applying for a job while living in Australia. I have not got any calls yet from prospective employers or recruiters.

Has Anyone been employed from overseas? How does the process work?

How can I increase the possibilities of being employed?

I am Network Engineer and my wife is Dental Assistant.

Have a good read of the Job Hunting section in the Wiki (on blue bar at top of page). It will tell you all about how to 'Canadianize' your resume, how to apply for jobs, and most importantly, about how to network which is vital in Canada.

Unfortunately, the way that most people have success is by going over there on a reccie - the Canadians like face to face contact apparently. So to give yourself the best chance you need to phone and arrange to meet lots of people, most on here seem to come back with a job offer if they do that.

At the very least, you need to pick up the phone, don't expect any response if you are just applying via email or the net, unless you are in an occupation very much in demand.

It is worth reading the Wiki section on this topic as has been suggested above.
We are currently trying to do the same thing only from NZ. You don't say whether you have PR so not sure if what I have to say is relevant, but I'll say it anyway! (we have applied for PR through Sydney but expect a 36 month wait).

From our personal experience my OH has applied for heaps of jobs and has taken to calling prospective employers as a follow-up. This has met with very limited success. Actually getting a human being to talk to (rather than an machine) is the first obstacle and when he has got someone to talk with they have said either that "we don't hire foreigners", "it's too hard getting an LMO" or "it is easier to hire locally or nationally".
It is REALLY frustrating especially given all the stuff you will read about applying for PR without a job nowdays... when the new revisions to the Immigration policy come out (in November I think), it is likely you will not be offered PR if you don't have a job offer or if your job is not on the OUP (Occupation under Pressure) lists. And of course you need a job offer to get a TWP. It is a catch-22 situation.
I keep telling my OH to keep ringing companies because you only need one person to say yes. Seems finding that one person is like finding a needle in a haystack!

I'll third that from experience what I have. If you want to get a call back the best way is to say I will be over between x and y if you would like to sit down for a chat I would be more than happy to come to your office. You need to sell yourself next to candidates who could in theory live above below or next door to the office of the guy hiring.

As many of you guys have said, This situation is really frustrating. I have tried so many different things to draw their attention but I have had a very little success. I´ll keep applying for jobs from AUS, I´ll never give up on this. I am pretty sure someday will be my lucky day and I´ll find the sponsorship I need.

I haven´t applied for PR because of the new Canadian immigration laws. Particularly, I have found these new policies very unfair and disrespecful for ones who have applied for a PR and meet the selection criteria.

if the main applicant meets the minimum criteria requested by Canadian Government for Skilled Worker, the Visa has to be granted. As simple as that.. why the final decision has to be made by finger choice...

My plan is trying to get a job from here and apply for the PR when living in Canada.

I dont think it is really as clear cut as that. You need to have a job offer to go along with the skilled worker and the company first has to prove that they can't give the job to a Canadian applicant. Isnt that how it works?

I only ask because as an Australian passport holder if you are aged between 18-30 you can get a working holiday visa for Canada (it takes about a week to get).

Also, they changed the law back in January that Australian passport holders can now get the visa for 2 years, no restrictions on type or length of job and it’s not a once in a lifetime Visa anymore (so once you have finished the 2 years, you can apply for another 2 years – you can keep doing this until you don’t meet the criteria (under 30).

But the best thing about it, if you can go that option it means you can look for a job once there, once you are in the job it will be easier for you to get PR as you will have job/possible sponsor.

Might be one option for you.

To apply for PR under Skilled worker category, a job offer is not required as far I know. This condition is applicable to PNP and working visas. If the main applicant has a job offer already in place, the PR aaplication will be processed very fast (priority), otherwise the process will take at least three years.

We did this, applied for job, after job after job, nothing.

Then emailed the same companys agai with dates that we was over, surprise surprise got interviews lined up and even got the company to apply for lmo, even though they had never done this for anyone before

They do like face contact with you, best to choose the area that you job is in demand and read the wiki above, full of very useful information

If my profession is on the Profession under pressure list, the Visa application will be processed faster? or I won't need a sponsorship in order to apply for a working visa, for intance?

What having your profession on the 'Occupation under Pressure' list essentially means is that in theory there is a shortage of that work in that particular province. So if you field of work was on OUP lists in BC and ON but not the other provinces, then you might want to look at those areas for work as you are "more likely" to find employment. It doesn't get your application processed faster. The only thing that will do that is getting a job offer.
That's my take on it anyway, if I am wrong, I am sure someone will come along and put you straight

Added to which, a company only needs to have advertised the job for 7 days before they can apply for LMO, unlike the usual 3 months. So they can usually employ a foreigner much more easily.

Also, just to add to your comment that you don't need a job offer for a SW PR application - that is true at the moment, however it is anticipated that when the changes are brought in later this year any applications without arranged employment will be rejected, so it may well soon become a requirement.

If you really can't plan a trip to Canada, which is by far your best bet for getting a job, then make sure you phone people instead. Do not rely on email or internet applications.
