Getting a drivers licence
#1
Hello,
I am wondering where to look to get information on the internet regarding driver training and testing (I am in UK but want to get a drivers licence straight away after arriving in Canada) in the Edmonton, Alberta area?
Also is there a Canadian highway code available, as I would like to start learning the road signs/rules as soon as I can?
Thanks allot.
Paul
By the way its tipping down with rain outside, I hate this place!

Hi Paul, just been looking at vatrious things this afternoon and foung this which should be helpful
http://www3.gov.ab.ca/gs/services/mv/
We had the same thought about the highway code but couldn't find one anywhere to buy so I did a few searches on www.sympatico.ca for driving licence an the best ones I found were in BC and NS but as it was a while ago I haven't got the links sorry. On the BC site theres a self test you can take which was interesting. You'll have 3 months before needing to take the test and personally I'd take it. The first month I was a real danger and would have failed although now six months later its a piece of cake.
Don;t underestimate the weather either. We've had two fierce storms in the last few days with spectaccular lightning and a downpour you would think came from the far east in the rainy season. Made it feel just like home

I took my D test in Calgary 2 years ago. I was given a booklet on Canadian Highway Code but found that quite a few signs and rules were missing from it. But do not fret I failed anyway! only 2nd time I managed to pass. I was later told by a friend that all Brits are failed 1st time on purpose to stop them from being so cockie. and criticizing lack of roundabouts and 4 way Stop sign junctions. You are right Highway Code literature is scarce.
