Default Getting British Pension in Canada

This is my second message to the forum already and I only just registered!

Does anyone here have experience of getting British pensions in Canada? OAP and other.

Do you usually have it sent by bank transfer or get cheques in the post, and if so, how does it work with the exchange rates?

I'm toying with the idea of keeping my British bank account and letting it go in there and just using ATM to get at it when needed.

Views will be much appreciated.

Still no response about bringing my doggie, maybe no one else does this?

Welcome! I dont know the answers I'm afraid, but I am sure if you search through the archive you will find more than one thread about moving with dogs, and probably one about pensions too. It may also come up in the other thread on pensions going on at the moment?

All the best

My Canadian husband gets his military Canadian pension direct deposited to his Canadian account and withdraws money through us ATM card here in the States. No issue with the rate of exchange so far. Normally the bank exchange rate is the equivalent of the going rate.

My parents kept their UK bank accounts as they are free and withdraw via the ATM. You can bring your dog provided it has all the up to date vaccinations as determined by the destination province. I know someone who brought their Siberian Huskies over (I know, absolutely bizarre) and they did OK on the flight.

They used a company in Sussex via Gatwick - I am sure you can find it on the Net somewhere.

Thanks for your tips dingbat, it all helps me realise it is not going to be as awful for our dog as I thought it might be.

I hate the idea of him being holed up for 8 hours or more. But I took the other advice too and looked in the archives. Lots of good solid info for me there and I will look there for anwers to other nagging questions I have about this forthcoming ordeal. When I think about it more, the ordeal of selling our home in England is far more worrisome than all the matters at the Canadian end. I have emigrated before, but a long time ago - 1964 - and have also come back to UK too in 1986. But its now time to go back again and I need to make plans very carefully. Issues about medicare are also a concern, but again I'll now look in the archives to see what is available there. Lots of food for thought and what a nice group you all are. Thanks for your expert help so far. I'm sure I'm going to have many more questions though.
