Default GCSE Equivalent examinations

Does anyone know whether GCSE examinations are equivalent to a Grade 12 diploma here in Canada?

Can anyone recommend where to get them assessed that the Ministry of Education, Training and Apprenticeships will accept.

Not being a teacher I have no real idea, but I would doubt exams taken at 15/16 would be the equivalent of our exams taken at 18! Surely A levels would be a better comparison?

GSCE O level are equivalent to Grade 12 in Arts and ever so slightly below Grade 12 in the Sciences. Grade 12 is basically five core subjects at a minimal academic level, plus a load of utterly useless electives. A levels are equivalent to first and second year University here for Sciences and Arts respectively. The standard is lower - period.

That sounds about right, I've heard this said before.

On this site http://www.upei.ca/irr/reg.html

Applicants with Ordinary or Advanced Level Examinations

Admission to first year may be on the basis of five appropriate General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) subjects at the Ordinary Level, including English Language and Mathematics. Advanced Level examination results received directly from the appropriate Examination Board which are appropriate to the intended program of studies will be assessed for advanced standing and credit. A maximum of three Advanced Level examination results may be presented for a maximum of six transfer credits. Credit normally will be granted only for grades of "C" or higher.

But it will depend on what you are trying to acheive with the GSCE.

SO you have GSCEs now what would you like them to acheive for you?

Maybe some one will have experience of that more specfic topic
