Cant believe that gas has actually gone down here (for now). 115.9 down from 117.9 - sure it will go up though just before the labour day weekend.

There are lots of Smart cars. They're quite economical.

I went tesco petrol station on way to work this morning in UK and was 98.9 pence a litre  more or less half the price in Canada... Whats the average price would all you people in Canada say to fill the tank of just an average car there????? just out of interest?

Between 40 and 50 bucks. Recently Its cost me just over $50. Depends on the car though, Something more "midsize" like a GrandPrix is probably closer to SUV teritory cos of the larger tank, maybe more like $70.

But remember, if you actually want to go somewhere, the chances are its at least twice as far to go as in the UK.

Your bog standard compact Pontiac Pursuit or old cavalier here packs a 2.2 or 2.4 liter. A VW golf (rabbit) is the smallest VW and comes with a 2.0. Honda Civics and the like start at 1.8 liters, and Gas consumption in the severe winter is even worse too. I dont think I could live with anything smaller than a 1.8 now, you just get used to having a bit more grunt than my old anemic 1.0 VW was capable of.

Even though its cheaper by far than the UK, its one of the first things to hit home when your get used to your income being in $Cdn.

Its only good if you are thinking in pounds. Once youve been here a while and get used to pay in cdn$, and remember that it used to be $30something a few years ago, and your fuel economy is 10-15% worse in the winter, it really hits home. Probably shouldnt grumble about it though, compared to UK costs. But then I suspect Uk salaries are comparably higher too.

Well the salary my husband has been offered in Canada is slightly higher than what he gets in the UK. And if you convert £50 into CAD that would be roughly $105 CAD!! so seems like you are deffo getting it at half the price in Canada.. thats one good thing isnt it!

Holy macaroni and cheese - down to 111.5 here today, the lowest its been in a long time.

They must want us to be in false sense of security so they can increase dramatically over the labour day weekend!
