Gas going down!

Since we landed nr Belleville, ON six weeks ago we have watched the gas prices fluctuate almost daily. As we see them go down as well as up we consider this pretty good as in the UK they seem to go up and up and hardly ever come down.

When we first got here the average price at our local garage was 107.6 per litre. This has gone up to the highest level of 109.9 and recently it went down to 102.6. Then at the weekend we were shocked to see it below the dollar at 99.6, so imagine how impressed we were today when it went even lower to 97.3.

If it goes any lower I will report back. How's the prices where you are?

1.02 to 1.03. in my neck of the woods. Last time I filled up I paid 1.21.

But we average only 7,000 kms per annum. So gas prices are not a factor in my life.

I just got in the door after filling at 91.2. :D
It's not usually this low, more like around 97-98 lately, but I find that late at night it's cheaper many places. I'll never get used to how it fluctuates during the day, though - often I see a difference of 7-8 cents at the same station during one day.

When I was in Montreal a few weeks ago it was $1.22. My tank was empty and I had to fill up to get back to Toronto, by the time I reached Toronto 7 hours or so later it was down to $1.02.

Ahhh... so the Island gets dinged for the high prices as well as the Okanagan. We were the same price until the other day when it went down to 116.something ;)

I'd be estatic to be able to buy gas below $1.00 again!

Prices should be dropping as the holiday season comes to a close
To the best of my recollection petrol, sorry gas, prices went up during our last hols to Edmonton as soon as the hols started in the U.S.

My friends in Alberta stated that's what they always do because of something called the 'Driving Holiday Time' or similar and the prices in the US are put up by the all powerful oil companies because they need that extra bit of profit
I know that it happens in France as well as we have witnessed it several times on different years, we start our hols in early July and by the 2nd week the wine/petrol and souvenirs have all gone up.
Cynical ploy but really happens.

Count your blessings... our local station is charging £0.99 (double that for Canadian price?)

That's without a holiday increase.. we have to pay that everyday

You put me to shame for complaining about our gas prices. I can remember last spring being shocked at the gas prices in the UK.

Karma sent -hope it makes you feel a little bit better.

Montreal is well known for it's high gas prices. My roommate goes there twice a week, and always fills up here in Ottawa before he leaves - gas is in general 15 cents more in Montreal.

A good part of this difference is that we have provincial sales taxes to contend with, plus a special fuel surcharge for the Montreal area, something you guys in Ottawa do not have to contend with.

For the gory details including some prices abroad see:
