You can buy new connectors in Home Depot, plus a lot more replacement parts than I ever saw in the UK stores. If you have the room, bring it.

The standard bottle here is a little bigger than the UK's, its a 20lb bottle, you get them refilled at most gas stations.

Charkie ones........ I have not seen one of them for about 6 years (well since I have been in Canada). When you emigrate over brings lots of bags as I am sure you won't be able to get them here.

Canadians do not grill their food in the cooker. Even if it is -20 they will put the gas BBQ on to cook a steak or burger etc even in mid week.

When its hot, its much nicer to cook on the barbie, saves making the kitchen even hotter!!
Grills in the oven generally have no temp control either on or off, so its difficult to grill in the oven.
Still you could always cook over the fire pit if you really can't stand gas barbies!

You haven't been looking in the right places.

You're quite right. A gas barbecue isn't a barbecue at all, just a stove in the garden.

Proper barbecues are readily available here, we even have one with an electric rotiserrie. The Trager ones, the very best, run up to seven grand but you can get a charcoal barbecue that will cook better than gas for fifty bucks. If you're interested in eating, there's really no reason not to have one unless you have some sort of physical disability.

The reason why people use gas is because its quicker I think. Cooking on a charcoal barbecue makes the meat taste different from a gas barbecue, but its not the same as putting the food in the oven. Well, I suppose you could put the steak in a pan on the barbecue and then it would probably be the same as frying it on the stove in a pan, but who would bother?

i like the gas ones because of the quickness of them, i think the food tastes the same as if i had cooked it on a barbecue with coals in it, i still burn it now matter which one i use.....
