If I may say so that's a particularly childish and unwholesome statement! The initial argument put forward by DAVIE_MAC, was done in a way which I for one considered aggressive, in-your-face and akin to a political rant. This is why I could never take his arguments seriously. Although I see his point, perhaps if he had put it in a less aggressive manner he would have got more people on his side, not that he's right though.
I've been paying my UK taxes for the last 38 years and what ever I get as a state pension when I get over to Canada when I reach 65 (if I reach that age) I'll be happy with. It's bugger all anyway all said and done.

Anyone heard of 'Half Man Half Biscuit'? They did a great album 'Trouble Over Bridgwater'.

The initial argument wasn't in upper case - it was in a different font.

You are quite right and I stand corrected, it is however in a very large font which has the same effect on the eye.

Goodbye children...
Now to get back to the serious business.
Thank you DAVIE_MAC for raising this in the first place and for the those making a sensible contribution.'
Further to the ECHR case that is being brought by the CABP and the BPiA who are partners, those who think that the case is lost before it has begun may have to eat their words. The UK government has signed and is committed to the Human Rights Convention in Europe and as such will have to obey the findings of the court or face serious sanctions until the court is satisfied that the human rights violation has been rectified. They have no power to actually enforce it though but should they find in our favour, which all indications are that they will, then we will see what happens. The CABP have been talking to MP'S in the UK and Europe and many are in disbelief that British Pensioners are in this situation. The CABP have a team of lawyers working for them and this is high powered activity on behalf of pensioners that has never been there before now.
Someone said that the people in the UK are not concerned about this but they would be wrong. Many, many pensioners abroad have relatives and friends who are writing to their MP's and signing petitions in order to get the upgraded pension for all and you only have to look at the signatories of the EDM's that I mentioned earlier to see that their is much stronger support there than there has been previously. About 30% of MP's have already signed EDM856.
In what sense is a state pension a human right? I don't much hold with the concept of rights but while asylum might be a human right and protection from starvation might be a human right indexing of state funded pensions is no more a human right than is access to the back catalogue of the Flaming Groovies.

Suppose you would argue that the scum you call your family (as you put it)who are mostly in nick sponging off the state have a case for human rights for being locked up 23 hrs a day as someone mentioned.

If prisoners are locked in their cells for 23 hours a day as, for example, Paris Hilton reportedly to be then, yes, those people have a better claim that their human rights have been violated than the non-recipients of indexed pension payments.

I got f£%%k all much to do during the day as my business is all but closed down in readiness for our move, so I spend a little time now and again nosing around BE putting me penny's worth in, along with doing some local community charity work. When I get to Canada I'll be too busy to pee never mind logging into here. Well, might find a little time...

This Human rights issue is all about discrimination. No type of discrimination is to be tolerated whether it be racial, sexual, political, financial or whatever or however great or small. That is the reason that the court have accepted the case.
Regarding the OAS, whether you apply or not is up to you, so I take it that you will not accept any health care from the Canadian government when you get sick as you said that you would be loath to impose on them. Hmm.
Maybe you can tell us how many and which countries follow the same or similar pattern to the British government and freeze or maybe do not pay any pension outside of their own country. This would be a positive input to the discussion.

You're welcome, glad you could find the sanity amongst all this garbage. I popped in this morning before I start work, and my god they're still at it! I think you summed it all up - the rest of us have a life outside of here. And most of the BE members enjoy informative postings not the twaddle this lot creates. Thankfully there are other expat sites where you can have a grownup conversation. Steve and dbd and co should be ashamed of themselves. Now I'm off to work, will check in at coffee time and hope by then they've found something else to amuse themselves with.

Most of them, I imagine. I doubt most countries pay any sort of state pension at all.
